Silly Question

Postby JK » Mon Mar 23, 2009 2:54 pm

Lads,

What happens if a team has used all 3 subs, and then loses their keeper to a Red Card or injury? Has anyone ever seen it happen?

Thanking you in advance,

yes player in the field spots. i.e. defender or mid field will put keepers mits and equipment on and become the keeper, think john terry from chelsea did it a few years ago, and remember when Arsenal played Norwich a few years ago in premier league Norwich had to do this, but us gunners still lost, and wenger wasnt to happy that we couldnt score against and ' fill' in keeper

Rio Ferdinand had to put the gloves on last season for Man U but can't remember who it was against. Poor fella had no chance of stopping the penalty kick.

Yes, per previous responses, 3 subs is all you get, so an outfield player takes the keepers gloves.

Rio Ferdinand did it for Utd last year in the FA Cup at OT against Pompey:

At the time, I recall asking - WTF was Rooneh doing whispering in RIO's ear beforehand? "What you up to later tonight Rio? Keen to pick up some granny hookers?"

It was an FA cup match against Portsmouth. Chelsea played Reading either last season or the one before and had Cech injured early on. He was out for months due to the injury. Then late in the second half Cudicini was injured too, so John Terry had to put on the gloves. It was quite funny.

Hilario? Im pretty sure it was Cech and Cudicini out injured for a fair while. Hilario became the first choice goalkeeper for a while and didnt do too bad.

Haha yeah his name was Hilario or something which was pretty damn funny.

The question has been answered though. It is unfortunate that not all teams possess a player like John O'Shea who can fill any position with ease.

maybe FIFA should look at something that if the keeper and only the keeper gets injured and all 3 subs have been used then he can be subbed or somthing like that

No way. Its a part of the game that is good. Seeing people like Terry and Ferdinand jump into goals to cover is good and something different even though it happens only on the odd occasion.

I reckon Adelaide United started the game against Gamba Osaka with 4 outfield players on the bench with young Birighitti starting as Eugene had a suspension and they couldn't be bothered calling up another keeper.

Cornflakes would've taken the gloves....

I agree with not changing the rules ... Before a game starts the rules are the same for each team, so it could just as easily happen for any of them throughout the year.

The only way it would change is if it happened during a game involving Melbourne Victory. Muscat would get them to change the rules just for him and he would get away with it.

He'd just run the length of the field and knock out the opposition keeper with a flying Cantona Kung Fu kick, just to even the playing field ... Of course Mr Breeze and his merry band of assistants would card the opposition keeper for diving

No, replace 'not all teams' with 'Tottenham' and I'm with you! ;)

O'Shea is quality. At almost any other club, he's be a starting regular, but is happy playing Fergie's bitch at Utd.

Great to have a player like that.
