Beckham Watch

Stupid thread, but hey, the man's a legend:

He's also staying at the San Siro until the end of the season:

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_5013079,00.html

Sky Sports News sources understand an agreement has been reached for David Beckham to remain with AC Milan until the end of the season, before returning to Los Angeles Galaxy.

Negotiations have been ongoing for some time since Beckham expressed a desire to extend his stay in Italy.

Sky Sports News chief reporter Bryan Swanson understands that Beckham will stay with the Rossoneri until the start of June and then go back to America to feature in the second half of the Major League Soccer season.

Beckham will then return to Milan next term in an arrangement that is likely to suit all parties.

He initially moved to the San Siro on loan in January but was due to return to his parent club on 9th March.

Milan have been impressed by Beckham's attitude as well as his performances and have been eager to push through a deal to keep him.

Galaxy had been reluctant to let the 33-year-old go but it now seems the clubs have reached a compromise.

The midfielder is keen to play for Milan to boost his chances of representing England at the World Cup in 2010.

Not too many Footballers can say they've played for arguably the biggest clubs in England, Spain & Italy.

Man U = 265 games for 62 goals
Real Madrid = 116 games for 13 goals
AC Milan = 7 games for 2 goals

England 108 caps for 17 goals.

OK, I'm turning this into a full-on Becks love fest:

10 of his best in a Utd shirt:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUX7wTWJpCw&NR=1

IMO, this is his best ever goal, simply because of the situation it was scored in. 93rd minute of Englands last WC qualifier against Greece leading into the 2002 World Cup. England down 1-2 to the Greeks, won a freekick well outside the area. Becks stepped up, took his time (which is cruicial because most players would just try to bang it in at that stage of the game so as to not waste time) and curled it into the top LH corner. MAGIC:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bz5A8oGlgDQ&feature=related

Not bad either in the 2006 World Cup:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSC_kw_-SGA&feature=related

I can't recall who it was, but there was an argument on here abut 2 years back, with someone saying Becks only got a game because he's pretty. What a load of utter gobshite. The man is absolute class. No-one takes a free kick like him. Just look at where he places most of those goals. Many are from open play, where he just picks out where he wants to put it and BANG, it's in the top corner.

Look at the goal against West Ham in the first vid, where with one touch he just dinks a bouncing ball over the keeper - AMAZING.

I hope he gets to stay at Milan even though I don't like them.

The man is a legend and it would be great to see him playing at a higher level than that American rubbish.

It's not what he's done individually but what he's done to the League. For example leading up to his arrival at LA Galaxy they were averaging a crowd of 20,814. His first year it went up 24,252 and then in 2008 up to 26,009. A pretty good increase.

Most sports stores sell LA Galaxy shirts because oh him.

When the Galaxy played Sydney it was a sellout, and when they played Wellington 31,853 people showed up. The BIGGEST crowd to ever watch a game in NZ. Probably sums up his drawing power.....

From the Milan web site

With Kaká, Seedorf, and Ronaldinho missing, on the day of the officialisation of his permanence at Milan, David Beckham not only gives the team balance and cover, he also becomes a wizard.

The match started with the continuous intuitions of the Englishman behind the strikers, passes and calibrated crosses that forced Atalanta's defence to keep the tension high.

The match quickly became downhill for the Rossoneri, who in the 8th minute created the chance to score on a cross by the Englishman. Beckham's ball into the area was controlled by Zambrotta, who was quick to play it to Jankulovski, the Czech played it low to Inzaghi, who converted the first real chance of the match. For Pippo it's the 296th goal as a professional.

The first half ended with a bit of magic from Beckham, who found Pato with a great long ball but the Brazilian was stopped by Consigli.

He's injured until March 15/21. He's been out for 3 months, so probably won't be up for selection for a while now.

Arguably his greatest ever goal was against turkey. Injury time and was going to be the last kick of the game. If he didn't score England were out of the world cup

25 or 30 yards out just off centre. Can you imagine the pressure? Then 'bang' and England were through. Fantastic

I can't find a vic for that one. Are you sure it's wasn't the 2002 WC qualifier free kick against Greece? That's exactly what happened in the Greece game played at Old Trafford.

From SkySports:

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has admitted he would welcome the opportunity to bring David Beckham back to England.

The former England skipper is currently on loan at Serie A giants AC Milan from MLS outfit Los Angeles Galaxy.

He is desperate to remain part of Fabio Capello's plans in the build up to the 2010 World Cup and believes playing in Europe offers him the best opportunity to achieve that goal.

Beckham is set to return to America once his deal in Italy expiries in June, allowing him to turn out for the Galaxy in their domestic campaign.

He is then hoping to earn another loan deal, possibly with Milan, during the 2010 January transfer window.

However, with Carlo Ancelotti's future at Giuseppe Meazza under scrutiny, there is no guarantee the Rossoneri will want him back.

Role model
That could see him set his sights on a Premier League return, with Spurs manager Redknapp revealing the 33-year-old would be more than welcome at White Hart Lane.

"I'm a massive fan of Beckham," he said in the Sunday Mirror.

"He's a fantastic footballer and a great role model. I would take him on loan for sure.

"He's in great nick and still arguably one of the best crossers of the ball in the game.

"I think any club would take a look at him. He would be a fantastic loan signing."
