Vidmar out of contention
May 9, 2006

AUSTRALIA defender Tony Vidmar has pulled out of contention for the World Cup finals squad after being diagnosed with a heart problem.

The Socceroos will name their squad at 11am tomorrow, Football Federation Australia confirmed today, almost a week before the FIFA deadline, but Vidmar will not be on the list.

The 35 year old, part of the Socceroos squad that defeated Uruguay in a World Cup play-off last November, has been sidelined since he broke a rib playing for NAC Breda in the Dutch Eredivisie in mid-February.

Tests conducted after the rib injury diagnosed an irregular heart rhythm.

"It's something that has come as a real shock, but due to the seriousness of the situation I had no other choice in the interests of my own health and the team that I withdraw from being considered for the World Cup squad," Vidmar said in a statement.

I arrive into the UK for a month on June 4.
I've tried just about every avenue to get tickets to any of Australia's 3 group games.
I'm travelling with my wife and two other friends so every ballot ahs been for 4x tickets.
Today I have been offerred 1 x Cat 3 ticket to Australia v Japan @ 200 euros.
I am going to turn it down.

It's all good now though.
Got 4 x cat 1 tickets (for the Japan game) yesterday through the conditional ticket ballot.

Big tip - do not sell your tickets as you;ll regret it for a long time coming.
I can't wait.

Matt, I'm sure it's something you'll remember for your whole life. You either have great timing or great luck in being able to get over to Deutschland for it. Here in Japan, most people seem pretty confident that they (Japan) can beat Australia, so I really hope our (Aussie) boys can start off with a win!

Japan confident in defeating us, while we're confident in defeating them. That happens on a regular basis in Aussie Rules.

Dont get lost Matt - I reckon its one of the hardest places to navigate around unless you have been before or are with someone who knows where to go.
The train stations dont have English signs which sucks. So dont get on the Express train, or else you will end up miles away from where you need to go. I presume you are flying into Narita Airport in Tokyo?

Subject: This is GOLD

It is just before Australia v Brazil in the Group phase of the World Cup.

Ronaldinho goes into the Brazilian changing room to find all his teammates looking a bit glum.

"What's up?" he asks.

"Well, we're having trouble getting motivated for this game. We know it's important but it's only Australia. They're sh*t and we can't be bothered".

Ronaldinho looks at them and says "Well, I reckon I can beat these guys by myself, you lads go down the pub."

So Ronaldinho goes out to play Australia by himself and the rest of the Brazilian team go off for a few beers.

After a few pints they wonder how the game is going, so they get the landlord to turn the tv on. A big cheer goes up as the screen reads "Brazil 1 - Australia 0 (Ronaldinho 10minutes)". He is beating Australia all by himself!

Anyway, a few more pints later and the game is forgotten until someone remembers "It must be full time now, let's see how he got on". They turn the tv on.

"Result from the Stadium "Brazil 1 (Ronaldinho 10 minutes) - Australia
1 (Kewell 89 minutes)".

They can't believe it, he has single handedly got a draw against Australia!!
They rush back to the Stadium to congratulate him. They find him in the dressing room, still in his gear, sat with his head in his hands.

He refuses to look at them. "I've let you down, I've let you down."

"Don't be daft, you got a draw against Australia, all by yourself. And they only scored at the very, very end!"

"No, No, I have, I've let you down... I got sent off after 12 minutes"

Would be a bitter blow for any individual ... Will also be a blow to Liverpool and a possibly France (although I would imagine they would have a replacement as good, if not better, in the wings)

He has re-injured the leg which he broke during 2004 while playing for Liverpool. Apparently the first break was almost identical to the one Nathan Brown suffered last year.

Saw the footage - and yeh didnt look good. Not as sickening as Nathan Brown's, but the break is meant to be horrible nonetheless. He had a good year for Liverpool and will be a blow to the French.
