Aussies, realistically no chance....?
We don't play enough internationals at this level as a team to seriously think we can win. Australia v Uruguay isn't really a 2 horse race.

This is the very definition of a 2 horse race. There are two competitors. Both have the possibilty of winning. While you might think that one side has a much higher chance than the other, it is still a 2 horse race.

Oh, and GO Aussies!!

realisticlly, i dont think Australia will win the 1st leg, but the 2nd leg at home i think they are a good chance, Australia beat Uraguy last time they played in Aus, and Australian Football has come a long way since then.
2-1 Uraguy 1st leg
2-0 Australia 2nd leg
never underestimate the power of home ground advantage (as long as your not Adelaide United  )

Mate, I have been wishing we will make the World Cup Finals ever since I was a teenager, and we always seem to screw it up one way or another, so I sort of understand where Dog_ger is coming from there.
I believe that we have the necessary class to make it there, but as has been mentioned already, we don't get much exposure to quality opposition on the world stage. We have to play warm ups against virtual division 3 sides and then suddenly, a sudden death home and away series against battle hardened Uruguay.
Sorry about the pessimism guys. I hope history does not repeat itself.
Go you Socceroos!

I really hope that for football in Australia we can win one of these legs, and hope to god we're on top in terms of goals etc. Hearing what you've just said, which a lot of people already knew "therisingblues" it makes me want to see them win even more. Since the last time we played them, football here has come a much longer way, with the establishment of the A-League players have stepped it up another level, and i reckon we have what it takes to win it at home.. and perhaps steal a draw away (Yes realistically).

Go the Aussies, we'll all be watching, a half awake nation awaits on Sunday morning

I've mixed feelings about an Australian win. Surely it will be yet another nail in the coffin of Junior aussie rules footy and a huge boost to a foreign football code in Australia. Why would anyone watch soccer in preference to aussie rules, its so bloody boring with thrilling 0-0 draws ?

not all sports have to be non stop scoring, there is a fine art to football, that only some can appreciate.

I'd be happy with a penalty shoot out after both games....!
