Question Please

Postby JK » Thu Feb 21, 2008 10:00 am

Ok, guys, please correct me if any of this is wrong and if not, help me with an answer lol.

As I understand it, in the EPL (and most comps) a Red Card means an automatic 3 match ban for the player in question, yes?

How come a player can appeal that ban on a straight Red, yet can't appeal either (or both) of the two offendding yellows which have contributed to a Red card?

Also, x amount of accumulated Yellows across a number of games also results in a ban (1 or 2 matches I think), yet none of these indiscretions are appealable are they?

Just seems a little inconsistent to me, hopefully I'm wrong or have overlooked something here.

Right CP, just because I have too much time on my hands and the kids are asleep, here goes. I have looked on the FA rules site, and the match ban for a Red Card varies, depending on what the red card was for.
i.e Players sent of under law 12 (7), for receiving a SECOND caution for the match miss one game.
If you get sent off for denying a goal ie handball under law 12 (4 & ) miss one game. This is what Cornthwaite missed for Adelaide for fouling that Sydney Bling bloke at Adelaide Oval...
If get sent off for abusive/insulting language etc you get two games, this is what Tiatto did against Adelaide United in the last game.
For violent, spitting or serious foul play will result in 3 games. i.e Anything Kevin Muscat does !!

Anyhow there's too much to type, here's a link

Have a read. also go to the FA site and look at the rule books to fine Laws 12 etc...

There is an appeals process, and that only applies to straight red cards. No appeals process that i could find for Yellows....

Have a read, I found it quite interesting !!

Cheers SJAB, thats pretty much in line with what I thought (although didn't realise the suspensions differed depending on the the nature of offence).

Still find it odd that a straight Red can be appealed, yet a two-yellow red or accumlation of yellow auto susp can't be appealed.

That said, it seems to work pretty well, you rarely hear of complaints over suspensions in these leagues ... Wonder if the AFL will ever be able to get their system as consistent and well accepted by the supporting public?

Muscat gets away with it. eg against Adelaide he pushed over the coach trying to get the ball, he gets a yellow, while Cosi gets 6 games for just touching his neck.
