So if Chelsea and Arsenal can follow them we are in for a real possibility of some "local" derbies

What chance Arsenal v Spurs??

JTC, hope not, still living on the glory of last weekend. How do they do the round of 16, I would think they seed top 8 and then just random draw. Pretty sure that MU, Chelski and The Goons would all be seeded??????????????

Im not sure there is a seeded draw for the final 16, could be wrong though...

Like i said, could be wrong... Looks like you won't be seeing any rivalry clashes until the quarters!

The tournament proper begins with a group stage of 32 teams, divided into 8 groups. Seeding is used whilst making the draw for this stage, whilst teams from the same country may not be drawn into groups together. Each team meets the others in its group home and away in a round-robin format. The top two teams from each group progress to the round of 16, which commences the knock-out tournament. The third team enters the UEFA Europa League.

For this stage, one group's winners play against another group's runners-up, and teams from the same country may not be drawn against each other. From the quarter-finals onwards, the draw is entirely random, with country protection no longer in force.

What if Arsenal and Tottenham finish 1st and the other 2nd in their group, i guess the no team from the same country policy comes in...

Anyone else think madrids stalling tactics were dusgraceful? Getting yellows on purpose to avoid suspensions later on in tournament is outrageous and not a tactic fifa should be condoning. It shpuld be stamped out or am i the only one that finds this offensive

Cossi is spot on Bulls. 1st v 2nd from the groups. Couple of years ago we had 3 out of 4 semi finalists.

Agree Jim but that stuff is going on every week in the EPL. Try watching the Championship, it's a far more honest game.

Whilst it was great being in the EPL last year and I would take promotion again, the football is far more enjoyable at the lower levels. There just isn't the same skill level

Finally uefa have shown some balls. Mourinho banned for 1 match for instructing players to time waste and recieve yellows. Also 120,000 euro fine. Chicken feed for madrid but has 2 year suspended sentence hanging ovet mourinhos head. Hopefully this will stamp out this kind of behaviour

Good point for utd this morning after coming from a goal down. Finished top of group and in doing so avoids most of the big name sides although we could get one of the milan sides. Uniteds pissible next opponents are inter, lyon, kobbenhaven, roma, marseille,ac milan.
Arsenal have a hard job they need to win and rely on shaktar losing to finish top of their group. Because of the knockout draw rules stopping same country matches, finishing second in group for arsenal would mean tough matches against either real madrid, barcelona, bayern munich or schalke.

Ps carrick is a hack. Worst player to pull on a utd strip since eric djemba-djemba. Hope rumours that we are pissing him of in january are true

Jim as a fellow united supporter I would have to disagree with you about Carrick, yes it was a bad blunder this morning but overall think he has been ok this season was a little rusty at first but now he's played a few matches think he's been good.

Not good news for arsenal this morning. Arsenal held up their part of the bargain with a solid home win but that was matched by shakhtar winning at home aswell. This leaves the gunners as runners up and will face a tough task in the knockout round against barcelona, real madrid, schalke or bayern munich

True. You have to beat the best to lift the cup. Would be very sweet for arsenal to send one packing early

Once again 25% of the CL knock out stage is made up of EPL sides. Another good reason why Russia was / is better qualified to host the WC ahead of England

Draw for round of 16
Arsenal v Barcelona
Roma v Shakhtar Donetsk
FC Copenhagen v Chelsea
Inter Milan v Bayern Munich
Lyon v Real Madrid
Marseille v Manchester United
AC Milan v Tottenham
Valencia v Schalke
Intetesting ties with a repeat of last years final and a tough draw for 2 of the london clubs with chelsea getting their usual soft draw. Lyon v madrid also should be a cracker. Lyon bundled them out last year. Manchester united should account for marseille so i would expect 3 english sides in last 8. Just cant see arsenal getting through and wouldnt be suprised at an ugly score in the return leg

I said SHOULD not WILL beat marseille. It will be a tough couple of matches but feel we can get through. Marseille are a strange side, somedays look like world beaters the next they look like a div 3 side. Need a good result away to start. I think barca can rack up a few second leg because i feel they will get a result at the emirates which will mean arsenal will have to chase a result at the nou camp and barca are the best at hitting sides on the break.
Personally i want all english sides through as the longer the others are in the greater the chance of united winning the league
