The "t" in footy is usually pronounced as a "d". The word "foody" looks as though it is something a fat 6 year old wants to eat.
Couldn't we spell it "fudy"?
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

As a boy I played soccer than I hit puberty and discovered intellgence, matured and rediscoverd the marvellous game of Australian Football.

So to me the debate is simple in Australia we play footy/football/foody etc

the rest of the world plays soccer

When the rest of the world grows up and discovers a brain the great game of Australian Football will rule the world
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

As you get older you accept that there is room for all to be called Football. Just like there are many beers available to us..? Beer, I have never had a bad one. I remember warm beer and cold pie, when you leave a 6 pack in your boot and the pubs were all closed on Sundays. Wine was crap 10-15 years ago or was it my immature palate which has grown accustomed to red wine now...? As my temperment has relaxed to another code claiming the Football tag.... Who really cares, not me...! Pass me another beer...!
Smile :)

It's only Money $$$ :)

What is happening to our SANFL guys...

Australian Rules Football, American Football, Gaelic Football, Association Football etc... are all different types of football, right? I think everyone agrees on that.

So in countries/regions where one of these codes is clearly the most popular type of football, then describing it as simply "football" is appropriate - people will automatically assume which code you are referring to.

However, in countries where a particular code is not the overwhelmingly most popular code, then it needs to be referred to by a different name. That is why in countries such as Australia, the name "Soccer" is widely used, and with good reason!

So people who insist on calling Association Football "Soccer" in South Australia are just making life difficult for themselves.

Because if someone asks you "What sport do you play?"

If you answer "Football", then their will either assume you play "Australian Rules" OR a further question will be asked "What type of football do you play?".

If you had simply answered "I play soccer", in the first place then it would be clear to them what you play and no further questioning is required!

It is weird that the name of 'footy' has changed in emphasius from being known as "Aussie Rules" to AFL. Even though this would no doubt piss you guys and people like Egan in WA , it appears that AFL by centrally branding the league as such has brought about people in its development areas (NSW & QLD) to start refering the sport by the name of its top level league. Even thought I am watching the Sydney SFL competition, I'm still watch the sport of "AFL". I doesn't really make any sort of rational sense, but I guess not having been brought up on the code from birth I'm more maliable in my attitude. Because calling Aussie Rules "footy" in Sydney would only lead to people getting either confused or untimately pissed off & alienated from the Swans, the league & untimately the whole code. :(

Once again it is the AFL politburo wanting to erase the traditions & history of the game in other traditional footy states. "AFL-SA", I think NOT! :x

Association Football is football, soccer is some bullshit term the seppos came up. however all the other sports that call it football are right. aussie rules is that or footy, but "soccer" isnt called that shit its football.
The problem with Barcelona is that I like fish and chips but they had to turn it into calamari and patatas
