Im in a good mood so have compromised and changed the description in the Soccer forum from ' The "other" football' to ' The World Game'.
A fair compromise I think.

You can call it what you like if a real team like Adelaide City gets back in the top comp! :D

Football is a code, not a sport. Soccer is a code of football, the same as rugby, australian rules or gridiron.

HAHAHA!

Funny you should say that JTC. This evening while waiting for the train (stupid f***ing First Great Western - shoud be called "Always late shit western" but that's another story) a bloke came up to the guy next to me who was reading about the floods and asked "is Ljungberg really out?". It was classic. They guy with the papers said (in a rude voice as if to say "who cares about football at a time like this" - although he could have been a spurs supporter  ) 'I hadn't got that far'. He showed the bloke the back page and I thought this guy was going to cry when he read that Ljungberg was out. Stupid Arsenal fans!

Hey DA, big news today. The clraets have just announnced a £20m yes that's right, read it TWENTY MILLION QUID, on redeveloping Turf Moor. The Cricket ground stand is coming down to replaced by a new stand, the Bob Lord stand is being completely revamped (only a 5,000 seater so needs something doing, a new Hotel, sports complex, the acabemy is moving there etc etc etc. It will should be completed by 2009 after starting next summer.

The cricket field stand has around 7,500 seats and is used for the away fans (all 262 that Colchester brought with them last season)

They are also filling in the cornes of the other new stands (where I sit) to increase the capacity.

Big question for me is why? Why are we spending £20m on increasing the capacity from 24,000 all seated, when we average only about 12,000 - 16,000 in the first place.

Surely if we are going to spend £20m it would be better spent on players to get us into the EPL. That is the time to redevelope, when we are getting 24,000 every week.

That's great news! You are right, it does seem funny to redevelop ahead of an EPL promotion, but maybe the owners are looking to take advantage of the current influx of foreign investors and are making the Clarets a more attractive takeover target.

Maybe a new stadium will help put bums on seats and get you closer to the 24,000 capacity?

Hey you. Less of the pommy if you don't mind

Bloody Aussie seats. They all went pink after about a fortnight. obviously not used to the intense heat of the English sun  . Have to replace about 10,000 of them already.

Thanx redden whites. Not sure about Multiplex though. We have a 3 year timescale on this one. don't think they could do it in that time.

Have go the details from the Burnley site and the local rag. not increasing the capacity, just building a new stand to replace the old cricket ground stand, but adding a multiplex cinema, hotel retail outlets, conferencing etc etc. will be great when it's finished, but still can't help think that £20m on players might have been a better spend.

To be fair the money is coming via investment, grants and loans, so perhaps that wouldn't have been available if it was allocated to players.

Next time I should keep my big mouth shut until I get all the facts and not just the headlines.
