Will Wellington Phoenix be better than the Kingz/Knights

Postby Benchwarmer » Sun Aug 19, 2007 1:43 am

Will the Phoenix rise from the ashes of "the pub team" or will they continue the trend of mediocre representation in the Australian league?

I think they might give 7th a shake!

5th or 6th.

they already have over 1000 members signed up, so looking alot more promising for 07/08 than the Knights did the last couple seasons.

IMO, I thik they FFA should get rid of a team from New Zealand. We are NOT in Oceania anymore !
Establish a team in a football mad city like Singapore and enter them into the league...

But Wellington will finish second bottom, just ahead of Newcastle.

That's a great idea RE: Singapore. Only issue would be cost? Still, if the NBL can do it, surely FFA could come up with some moolah.

Yeah and the Slingers didn't start a Singaporean on the roster last year !!
The Singaporeans have a mega load on $$$, love the football, and have a good league (S-League).

BUT What the FFA need to do first is invest in a youth league (Under 21). Give the game some grounding,
and try to keep all the kids here instead of them looking at going O/S. Start the u21's before the main game,
and you'd have a real good day out at the FOOTBALL....

On Total Football on Fox tonight they said Wellington are expecting a crowd of 10,000 +

That would be fantastic if they could get those numbers as the Kingz never reached that figure. They had a kiwi bloke on the panel (forgotten his name) who said, because of the central location of the team, some punters will fly to the home games as it's quite easy to do.

Let's hope they knock off the Victory in their opener, what a start that would be!

IIRC, there was over 14000 for the game last week in a 2-2 draw with Melbourne. Not a bad start.
