There are derbies and there are rivalries.

Liverpool Everton is a derby, it has passion but does not compare to the rivalry of Liverpool Man U (Rangers Celtic is of course the exception to this rule, neighbours and bitter rivals althougn the rivalry is based on religion and originates from Ireland not Scotland)

lazio vs roma is another, always ends up in riots on and off the pitch. the rival is based on social issues and politics. in a recent derby january of 2006, paolo di canio did the fascist salute after the game at the roma fans which caused mass riots. Also in the 21st of march 2004 game, the game was called off at half time after roma fans got word around that the cops had killed a small child in a pre match scuffle (later to found out was not true.)
