i was reading that the australian olympic team were having ticker tape parades in brisbane, sydney, melbourne and perth.

then last night i caught the 1st part of the david letterman show after sports tonight knowing that this program is usually 3 months behind on whats happening actually.

they had a gymnast called shawn thompson who won gold in a women's event who had just touched down from beijing, so they whisked her onto his program to talk about the games (even though she was supposed to get a connecting flight to her home state where apparently 4,000 people were waiting for her at their airport).

as a gold medalist she said she was invited to join the U.S.A. ticker tape parade covering 40 cities over the next 3 months

felt sorry for all of her home town people waiting to give her a welcome home celebration at the airport

Imagine the poor bastard that has to sweep the streets after....

i think all medalests are invited to go to all states parades if they want to. Hobarts it 20 Sep and we should get most of the rowers as alot of them are from Tassie.
