Ok guys and girls, list who you think will be the 5 highest rated nations in terms of GOLD count ... I'm not a huge Olympics buff, but I'll take a stab with:

1. USA
2. China
3. Russia
4. Germany
5. Great Britain

And no, Im not being unpatriotic, just always back against my own team (superstition thing)

For whatever feeling I don't think Australia will do as well as we have in the past 2 Games. However Swimming will bail us out of any trouble as our swim team will clean up.

there is a much chance of Australia finishing 9th as there is of West winning the flag!

Australia will win between 14-17 gold medals and China will dominate so i dont know where the other medals are going to come from to make Australia finish 9th.

The US Sports Illustrated has released its medal predations for all events and the medal tally top 5 looks like this

G S B T
USA 45 44 32 121
CHN 49 28 25 102
RUS 25 28 22 75
AUS 22 14 18 54
GER 15 16 17 48

Will be very happy if Australia do that well. they are always very generous towards the US athletes but interesting that the have China winning more gold then USA.

We have two favs out in Rawlinson & Deakes already. I hope we finish top 5, but I can just see us falling back into the pack a bit....

Time will tell !!

Zimbabwe will not be in the botton 5 as Kirsty Coventry is a very good chance of getting atleast 1 medal.

I think the list will change a fair bit once the track and field events start. South Korea will probably drop down out of the 5 and China might lose the lead as I don't think Asian countries traditionally excel at track and field events.
