USA 156 - Nigeria 73.

Most points by a team in the history of the Olympic Basketball comp (156); Highest winning by a U.S. team in Olympic history (83); Most three-pointers made by any team (29); Tied most assists by U.S. national team (38); Most individual points by U.S. Olympian - Carmelo Anthony (37) which was 1 point shy of the all time international record for the U.S. held by Kevin Durant in the 2010 FIBA World Championships. Anthony logged only 14.5 minutes to get his points!!!

Interesting pre-game Nigeria talked up that they would be competitive and would not be intimidated by playing the U.S.

In reponse to questions raised by a journalist after the game about the U.S. not playing within the spirt of the Olympics and humilating their opponents Coach K said that was not their intention and in fact that was backed by the fact that neither Kobe or LeBron took the court after half time. It was always going to be a "blowout" win but by 83 is mind boggling in this era. Just one of those games I guess!

Lithuania are a strong team and always take it up to the USA, it was always going to be a hard game for the US, they would of been more worried about this one then the Argentina game

Who beat Argentina by 29 this morning. As much as we would all like it to happen, there is no way Australia will / could beat the USA.

The only advantage the rest of the teams have in FIBA ball when playing the USA is the ability to defend with zones and some below average officiating. If the Olympics and WC were played under NBA rules then there would be even bigger blowout wins by the USA.

Having mentioned the officiating - overall in all games (men and women) it has been well below standard. Case in point is the female official from India who got a gig at the Olympics! Looking at India's standing in International Basketball you would have to wonder what sort of games she actually officates in during a normal season?

I am all for promoting developing nations and their officials but that should be done in tandem. Olympics deserve the best officials and there are clearly some big under performers not used to the level of play and the class of the players across all 12 competing nations.
