World Cup Boring???

I love my cricket but this world cup seems a tad boring, poor crowds, average coverage, not enormous media attention, Woolmer situation........unfortunately these factors seem to have overshadowed one of the great sporting events of the world...............

Thats not to say the eventually winner (hopefully the Aussies) isnt deserving, just seems the whole event might need a make-over.........

I disagree with you here but plenty would probably agree with you.

Problems.

1. Overpriced tickets
2. Fun police ruining the Caribean spirit of cricket
3. Home nation crap
4. Bob Woolmer R.I.P.
5. Tournanment too long

However, I think the emergence of Bangladesh and Ireland has really added something to international cricket. Bangladesh could be a force by the time the next cup rolls around nad Cricket in Ireland will benefit enormously from the efforts of the boys in Green. No, I'm enjoying the cup but they shouldn't have held it in the West Indies if they were out to bleed the local population's wallets dry.

I thought this world cup had the potential to be the best. The lack of crowds for various reasons had put paid to that, and the Indian/Pakistan failures took away some of the competitiveness while Woolmer's death leaves a sour taste in the mouth. The only thing the organisers could have done better was encourage the crowds more.

I think they have started to cut ticket prices graham. This park and ride thing is a scam to. You pay to park and you pay to ride..locals are calling it the pay and pay system.

Its sad the way that the locals have been royally screwed over by the ICC this tournament. They are a poor group of countries at the best of times, and dont need a large authority coming in and being able to make financial decisions unopposed. This tourny could have helped the countries and West Indian cricket get back on its feet, but instead its shot them point blank in the head.

At least the ICC now have an example of how NOT to run a World Cup. Greedy buggers. Hope they do better in 4 years time.

Here's some tips:

- make ticket prices good value for the locals
- allow byo food, drink, instruments etc. and make getting to the grounds easy
- make the tournament shorter i.e. play two super 8 matches per day and 3 first round matches per day

All that shouldn't be to hard to organize....
