fairly ordinary effort by the Aussies on day one
all out for 258 and the South Africans 0-38 at stumps

Ntini took 5, Ponting top scored with 71
Symonds failed again with 13, how much longer are we
going to persevere with this guy

Yeah You are so right - Cast him away again into obscurity!
I bet you were the first bloke singing his praises when he murdered the Kiwis last week and made 156.
Chin up and give the bloke time - fair crack!

Well they kicked our ass yesterday and showed us all how fragile a batting really is. Which is a good thing if we want to win back the ashes. Its simple, we looked good against the windies, but it appears as the South Efricans are quality. So they were able to expose us.

We really needed either hodge or Hussey to kick on for a bit. Oh well we will need a good fight back today.

It's the kind of start to a test series you'd expect, after **** assing around in NZ with a 1 Day series wedged in between Test series...

Well, not sure what to make of things... is it really that much of a bowlers deck? A lot of batsmen got starts & didn't go on with it. Matt Hayden threw his wicket away unnecissarily, & at 1/38 (scores level), are we really in the position to put on a big total? I suggest we'd need Brett Lee to hang around, while Langer builds an innings, or Langer & Ponting need to put something good together. For mine, RSA have the edge at the moment, if only through getting that wicket before close of play.

Ozzies were definately on top, but it's back to being even with Langer getting out. Brett Lee did his job as night watchman. Punter had the benefit of a dodgy no-ball call go his way. One for the quiz nights- Who's first scoring shot resulted in 5 runs, after the ball hit the bat twice? Brad Hodge- hit the ball, took a single, as the fielder had a shot at the stumps, it hit Hodge's bat, deflected off & went to the boundary for 4 more.

Slow going at the moment. Some good bowling by the South Efricans. If Hodge wants to show people how good he is, nows probably a good time for him to step up.

Andre Nel is a tool isnt he.Yeah he bowled well in the first innings when he knocked over our tail enders. But come on, he comes down the pitch that often to take a shot at the batsmen that it seems to take him about 10 minutes to get through and over. He should probably beat the batsmen a few times then say sit him on his ass before he comes down the pitch. Tool written all over him.

Side note, Langevelt bowled well, really unlucky not to have three.

Well South Efrika have really blown it. They almost had a sniff when Punter got out, but Hodge has carved them up up (Andre Nell as we speak). Hussey has the advantage of being on his home deck, the Aussies are now in a very commanding position, with history against large 4th Inning totals.

Australia 6-379, which is a lead in excess of 340.

Hodge is unbeaten on 130-odd.

Highest test score.

Did he raise his bat as he walked off to a standing ovation from the members?

Interesting that they have just made mention on 5AA about the South African team making complaints about racist taunts that they received during the test in Perth.
They interviewed Peter Young from cricket Australia who went on to say that the taunts were spoken in Afrikaans so the security at the ground didn't realise what was being said. Perth by comparison has a large population of people of South African origin so you can bet your bottom dollar that the people who made the taunts were expat South Africans which doesn't make it right but it's another example of underlying problems from somewhere else being brought to this country but the media slant on it portrays it as "racist Australians". The taunts must have come from white people though because if some people are to be believed, racism is only practiced by white people.
