The 2 NZ Commentators on ABC were having a laugh as to why he is in the side.

Not sure about him being a hack or a dud, but I'd have to admit he has been disappointing. Let's see how he goes in the next couple of games. He needs to settle into the team and feel part of it. At the moment he would be tense because he has to justify his inclusion.

REDANDBLACK

In your opinion what would you expect a number 7 batsman to
deliver in a career spanning 50 O/D games :?:
what average would be acceptable ?

In your opinion what would you expect the 5th bowler to average
with the ball in a career spanning 50 odd O/D games ?
what average would be acceptable ?

Work the sums out and then tell me if WATSON is a hack.

PS as an opening batsman he averages 37-5 as well.

mal, I just want to make it clear that redandblack00 isn't me (redandblack).

Why he chose that name is beyond me.

Once again with the averages mal  I don't expect any particular average i just expect him to show some promise with at least one of bat or ball. He simply doesn't do enough with the bat (especially when he is needed) and with the ball despite the fact (as you continue to point out) he bowls at around 140km's that doesn't mean jack at international level particularly when you serve up 4 balls on such a regular basis. Your other man Hopes would be a better option IMHO but he still needs more time to develop yet.

Attention MAL:
Shane Watson has failed to impress the following people-
Barrie Robran (Barrie sledged his selection on the http://www.nafc.com.au recently, & Barrie is not in the habit of making rash, foolish statements)
Terry Jenner sledged him in this weeks Sportsbeat.
99.8% of contributors of the Cricket room sledge his selection.
A mate of mine who played representative Cricket in the mid-north & Alice Springs (anyone know "Mullo" or "Muggins" ) says Watson's bowling is that pedestrian, he could hit him out of the MCG at age 48.

What I want to know Mal is; when are you going to accept you've made a blue with Watson, & concede that the selectors are flogging a dead horse with their golden boy?

Watson is a talented cricketer who one day soon will produce the goods for Australia. He adds flexilbilty to the team. Although I think he is best suited to the longer version of the game as a batsmen who can bowl a few overs if needed ( maybe when we play too spinners ). Also he hasn't played much cricket of late and is not quite at the top of his game, he wont be far away. I think more of a concern is the form of Hogg, spin will play a big part in the World Cup on their slow wickets and were only taking one who is out of form (due to not playing much rotation policy).

MAL

I want a player who contributes. Your saying he averages 37.5 opening. He's opened in 4 games and basically got lucky...... his career average of 17 ??? Bowling of 45+ ALLROUNDER?? MY ARSE!!! that is crap.... straight out crap....
His bowling is straight up and down. He gets carted every time he bowls. Other teams have admitted he is the weak link. Are YOU and the SELECTORS waiting for him to prove every body wrong????? How long is this going 2 take???
he might be turn to be a very good cricketer but he has now played 53 O/D ?????? thats enough experience.... FFS...GIVE Cosgrove 53 games he'd average 30 with that bat and probably 50 with that ball..... i know who i want!!!!!
I admit he bowls better than PONTING, he bats better than MCGRATH. BUT FFS he cant do either at international level. He does do VERY WELL at domestic cricket...
MAL i know he is your love child... but your on a losing cause....

R&B00

Now calm down and have a look at the mans stats
And then answer my question about the expectations of a
number 7 batsman + the 5th bowler.

Are you saying the Australian selectors are wrong ???

Barrie Robran was a champion footballer does that automatically
mean that everything he says will always be right ?????????????

PUNK now you and REDBLACK 00 be good boys and try and answer my
FEB 16 POST about the expectations of a number 7 + 5th bowler should be.

We don't have to answer any questions.
The majority of contributors think it, Terry Jenner thinks it, Barrie Robran thinks it (Barrie played for South Australia), I think the onus is on you to try & provide evidence- I think Watson's stats where it counts speak for themselves (& they are not flattering...)

Are you saying TJ knows nothing about cricket?

Yes, the Australian selectors have got it wrong (foolishly looking for an all-rounder)- Watson is their love child, hence his extended opportunities.

Punk on Saturday afternoons when you woke up next to the girl
you met the night before I used to go out and play cricket.

Point Im making is : Does Barry Robran know more about sleeping
with girls than Punk Rooster?
Does Barry Robran no more about cricket than the Australian selectors?

Justin Langer on the radio a fortnight ago said Shane Watson is going
to be the superstar of Australian cricket in the next few years.
But nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that cant be because ROBRAN + TJ said so.

As for WATSONS stats look them up sometime, certainly not a HACK.

Barrie Robran and Terry Jenner are entitled to their opinions. They are neither right nor wrong.
