Would love to see the Adelaide Oval Test match go back to Australia Day as it appears it might next season. Also gives the opportunity for players to impress in Pura Cup cricket during December.

There will be no repeats of this year's SCG send-offs in 2008, with two Tests set to follow the Sydney match against India.

Australia's Test and ODI program for next summer is set for a major overhaul, with little cricket scheduled for December and the triangular one-day series unlikely to start until February. The Age reported that India's home series against Pakistan had forced the changes as India would be unable to arrive in Australia until mid-December.

The summer would begin with two Tests against Sri Lanka in November, probably at Brisbane and Hobart, and would not resume again until the Boxing Day Test against India at Melbourne. The report said the only international games Australia would host in December before Boxing Day would be the three-match Chappell-Hadlee series with New Zealand.

The second of the four Tests against India would be held at Sydney in the first week of January - when the Test matches typically finish - before Perth and Adelaide would host the final two games later in January. The report said the one-day competition, which would feature Sri Lanka and India, would run through February and into March.

Cricket Australia told the paper the changes were unavoidable because India had to host Pakistan in November and December. "We have ten Test teams around the world and seven or eight of them are in the same time zone [season] as us," Peter Young, the CA spokesman, said. "That makes scheduling very difficult. It's like playing chess in three dimensions; every time you move one piece, it affects another piece."

So this year could be the last time we see the format we had this year (including a tri-series), as CA's looking at getting rid of the series' with three teams.

Dog boy - you should check your facts. The normal Tri-series (India, Sri lanka and Australia) has been scheduled after the test series and will run in Feb-March '08. The NZ/Aust Hadlee-Chappell series will be in addition to this series...

Yes - that's right, it is being held next year congratulations on your astute reading of the situation...but the whole season format is different. For example (as you pointed out) the tri series won't start until February, unlike the past couple of years when its virtually been over by now.

And with the review of the tri-series, and the fact they're looking at possibly getting rid of it, this COULD be the last time we see the same format for our cricket season of tests finished by new year and then the tri-series (as there won't be one) held. The one dayers will instead be played in a different format and possibly even at a different time.

Whats the bet Foxtel pick up the ODI's in Feb/March....cant see Channel 9 putting the cricket on at the start of the ratings period, especially games when Aust not playing....

10-20 years ago countries would fall over themselves to play in Australia over our summer, TV, the lifestyle, decent prize money.....

Now the Asia block rules the roost far more $$$ to be made on the sub-continent and pay TV has a big say in he programming of matches. I notice a BCCI (indian cricket board) related company made a strong bid for the ICC rights last month. That would have had some major implications for when and where certain nations play around the world. Especially as the Champions trophy showed Indians only really want to watch their own country play.....

Some troubled times ahead for CA to keep it deals with nine and bing the good nations here each Summer methinks.

The current one day tournament is too old fashioned, I agree above that its harder to get countries here now to play over summer so there will be some testing times ahead for Cricket Australia.

I agree with most on here - the 3 way series has been boring for years. It goes for too long and most people just want to see Australia play anyway.

I'd like to see a 5 match one day series at the start of December followed by a three test series - Test 1 at the Gabba pre-Xmas, then traditional Boxing Day at MCG and New Years at SCG. Then one Twenty20 match before team 1 leaves.

I'd have another Twenty20 match to start against the next team that comes out followed by a 5 match one day series and then the 1st Test starting Australia Day at Adelaide Oval followed by the WACA and Bellerive.

It mixes up the summer a little bit and allows visiting teams to at least get used to our conditions before the Tests start.

IIRC CA are locked into a minimum of five test, 14 one day games a summer with channel nine.

If the tri series goes still expect at least 14 one day games a season be it 3 with NZ as part of the Chappell Hadlee trophy and games against other touring nations

The traditional Aussie endless 3-way one day comp is outdated, boring and needs a revamp. I'd rather see 2 x 5 game series Aust v another country. One at the start of the summer one at the end.

Acknowledging Tassie's post tho, Ch 9 seem committed to boring us again for a few summers yet.

Why couldn't we have Test's against SL, one-day series, then Test's against India (possibly starting Australia Day weekend in Adelaide) - similar format they used to have in England.

Who cares if we don't play a test match in Melbourne boxing day anyway - it only rains anyway, and they could play an ODI instead.
