CULLEN OR BAILEY + THE SA TEAM FOR QLD 9/2/07

Postby mal » Wed Jan 31, 2007 2:02 pm

I have been challenged on another thread to become a defacto selector.
I will name my team and then what the selectors will pick for the QL V SA game.

Also who will be picked CULLEN or BAILEY :?:

MALS TEAM
-------------
1 BORGAS
2 D.HARRIS
3 LEHMANN
4 COSGROVE
5 CAMERON
6 DIETZ
7 BAILEY
8 R. HARRIS *****substituted by CLEARY*****
9 GILLESPIE
10 CULLEN
11 TAIT
12th man ADCOCK[if BOOF unfit]

INS : LEHMANN+ CULLEN....... OUT ELLIOTT/PLANT
Im picking 5 bowlers as BAILEY/CULLEN/HARRIS or CLEARY should be perservered with.
Otherwise more logically would be to have ADCOCK in and CULLEN out

SELECTORS TEAM
---------------------
1 BORGAS
2 D HARRIS
3 ELLIOTT
4 COSGROVE
5 LEHMAN
6 CAMERON
7 DIETZ
8 BAILEY
9 R HARRIS
10 GILLESPIE
11 TAIT

LEHMANN.......PLANT and or CULLEN out
They will pick BOOF and drop CULLEN as BOOF becomes the 2nd spinner.
They WILL retain BAILEY on his 4 wicket haul in Melbourne
Unfortunately Tom Plant might be the batsman dropped.

SO THE SELECTORS WILL DROP CULLEN AND RETAIN ELLIOTT
SO THE SELECTORS WILL DROP PLANT AND RETAIN ELLIOTT

Lets see how close I get
They will pick BAILEY not CULLEN

################################
*****PLEASE NOTE I HAVE EDITED MY TEAM
R HARRIS out
CLEARY in
################################

BOOF will lead the team against QL
My extremely accurate mail is that he has recovered \:D/

My main concern is that CULLEN will be overlooked.

THE WORLD MUST BE ENDING   , I AGREE WITH MAL THAT CULLEN WILL BE DROPPED & BOOF IN THE SUPRISING THING IS BLEWETT CAN NOT GET A GAME IN A SIDE THAT ISN'T PERFORMING YET ELLIOTT 'NESS' IS UNTOUCHABLE !! BUT FROM WHAT I HEAR FROM A COUPLE OF SEAHORSE PLAYERS IS, ITS BECAUSE OF THE ATTITUDE OF THE PAIR, ELLIOTT IS RESPECTED & HELPFUL TO YOUNGER PLAYERS WHILE 'POOR OLD BLUEY' IS VERY MOODY & SHORT TEMPERED AT ALL OF THE TEAM,OFFICIALS ETC ETC (I BELIEVE BLEWETT HAS BEEN LIKE THIS SINCE HIS MARRIAGE BUST UP & HIS BEHAVIOUR WAS TOLERATED BECAUSE OF IT BUT THE LATITUDE OF ALL CONCERNED HAS DIMINISHED AS HE HASN'T TRIED TO GET ON WITH HIS LIFE HE JUST KEEPS MOPING ETC)
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

BAYMAN
Your post goes a long way to explaining the BLEWETT demise and the ELLIOTT retention.

i believe that the only changes that will be made for the next moo moo match will be that BOOF will come back into the team and CULLEN maybe ommitted.

I find it hard to believe that ELLIOTT with all his disappointing scores in the 4 day game continues to get a gig.

As BAYMAN has mentioned ELLIOTT may only be saved by his respect amongst his peers and selectors, its a pity that ELLIOTT has lost the support of the majority of JELLYBACK supporters.

I believe that BLEWETT despite his problems off the ground should be back in the team. I find it STAGGERING that a player who averaged over 40 in his last season at sheffield shield level can not get a game the next year is beyond my comprehension.

COSSIE well maybe he should go back to club cricket for a while and lose a few pounds and then ELLIOTT can maintain a spot in the team, but put him down the order.

FANCY trying to pick a team over a week away from playing!!!!!!
Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!

CULLEN O/52[8] IN THE 0/d game v VI
His body language suggests he is a young man under a lot of pressure.
Was denied a caught behind decision and was very upset.
I have given the kiss of death to ASTLE/MARTYN/GILES this season.
K.O.D. is CULLEN..whilst I advocated for the other 3 I disagree with his inevitable sacking.
ELLIOTT will be in the team for the rest of the year.
Sadly the future of state cricket[CULLEN] will languish whilst ELLIOTT will not.

Im surprised how many of you'se are agreeing on the CULLEN selection.

Dan Cullen does not deserve a place in the SA side ahead of Cullen Bailey full stop. Dan Cullen has done nothing this season. He has gone backwards. He has so much potential but sadly i feel the hype went to his head.

Spot on
So why not let him play the last 2 pura cup games
Got nothing to lose so play 5 bowlers

Bailey deserves to be picked first.

I think Cullen goes alright in the one dayers. I like his attitude and he is one player who appears to give his all, all the time. I would be picking Cullen ahead of Bailey in the one dayers, but Bailey deserves his place in the Pura Cup ahead of Cullen. Would like to see them both picked for the rest of the Pura Cup games this year.

Have to agree with you mal. Both should play but if you had to leave one out Dan Cullen would be the one to miss out. I think now with Tait unavailable it is the perfect opportunity to play both of them.

6 ADCOCK
7 DIETZ
8 BAILEY
9 GILLESPIE
10 ROFE

Top order still suspect but best I can do.

I'm pretty keen to slot BLEWETT in. Probably for CAMERON or ADCOCK.

SA selectors are being faced with huge problems regarding these two spinners.

Dan Cullen burst onto the scene two years ago, and has been touted pretty much since day one as the replacement for Warne/MacGill. Does extremely well in his first two seasons. Six months after Cullen bursts in, comes along another quality spinner, of the leg variety, Cullen Bailey. He has had limited oppurtunity in the side up until the end of last season, but since Cullen has been away on Australian duties, Bailey has really stepped up. Cullen has lost form due to lack of playing, and now when he has come back - it is hard for the selectors to drop Bailey and even harder to play two spinners where conditions don't suit. It is a difficult problem, but also a good one to have.

We really need a decent allrounder and should be a big priority over winter that way I believe we can play both. We need someone that can bat at six and bowl first change. Cosgrove just isn't up to it and nor is Harris at the moment. Bailey has shown he can bat so I don't think our tail would be to long.

That is right ca, and that is why Mal is right in saying that Cleary needs to be in the side - at least given more of an opportunity.
