20/20 Match between Prospect and Kensington tonight

Postby smac » Thu Jan 25, 2007 10:25 am

At Prospect oval, starts at 5.20. Had a flyer dropped in the letterbox a few days ago which junior smac spotted and wants to go.

Be good to catch up with anyone else who heads along.

There is another at Glenelg Oval tonight between Glenelg and West Torrens. These events have been great for club cricket. It's good to see so many kids around the boundaries and getting to know their local club.

Great night at Prospect, the Pirates of Prospect engaged in battle with the Browns of Kensington and in the end the Browns triumphed.

Junior smac had a blast, after slipping on the fence early in the game and crushing his personal space he recovered and enjoyed the night.

Particularly at the end of the game when he approached Greg Blewett for a signature and was asked "How are the jatz crackers mate?" He stopped to sign a few autographs and chat with the kids, it was excellent to see and has ensured that junior smac wants to go again.

Well done to everyone involved.

20/20 may not appeal to the traditionists like REB + AH
but it does appeal to young kids and is a marvellous promotional
tool for cricket in general.
Nearly every young kid grows up wanting to bash 4s and 6s in the schoolyard,
hence the appeal of this frenetic game.
I love watching any cricket, so I like 20/20 cricket as well.

Smac, does little Smac want to go again?

That's because I like my cricket to be a genuine contest between bat and ball. Batsmen just teeing off on restricted bowlers isn't my idea of a contest.

So long as he goes through a gate and doesn't try climbing the fence around the oval, he would love to go again!

You are spot on with your assessment mal, kids want to see batsmen smashing it around for entertainment. Once he learns some of the finer aspects of the game, he would enjoy a day at a test match.
