Blewey: It's over!

At 35 years of age and unable to get a gig with the Redbacks, even with Lehmann out, it might be time for Blewett to join the 'year of the retirement' and give the game away. As the article (above) on baggy green states, no state is interested in signing up Greg Blewett for the extra two years he wants.

I can understand Blewett's wish to play on as his last couple of seasons have been most underwhelming to say the least. He wants to be remembered for the great player he was rather than the leaden footed batsman he has now become. However, time waits for no man and the curtain could be drawn down on Greg's illustrious cricket career.

Give it away Give it away Give it away now........

REB

The 'Tiser appears to be on a bit of a mission.

They printed the SACA's thoughts on the current playing group, then covered the great man Dizzy's response, and of late have run several articles that have given Blewett plenty of time to air his thoughts on selectors, his perceived impact his salary has on the spending at Adelaide oval, and just about anything else he wishes to discuss.

I know the medias job is to report, and our is to pick and chose what and when we read it,but surely they (Tiser) are now giving a bitter man a platform to shout from.

As REB has stated, give it away now Greg,we can all still remember you at your best, and dont wish to recall memories of you that make us think any less.

Maybe The Advertiser are as peeved about the Redbacks' performances as the rest of us are!?

As Blewett says in the article, he is in a very strong position. Worst case scenario for him is he gets paid $270,000 to play two more years for the Browns...

Are the people that gave him the contract the same people that refused to consider him in any form of cricket for SA before Xmas?

His form has slipped
His career is seemingly over
BUT how does Matthew ELLIOTT play p/cup cricket in front of him

It seems that Elliot played one and a half good innings in the Ford Ranger Cup and he has an unlimited ticket to the Redbacks side.

He is captain today in place of Lehmann! What about Manou, who captained the side for 2-3 years whilst Lehmann was playing for Australia!?!

Manou isn't in the team. Can't pick him just to be captain.

Let me guess ELLIOTT caught behind the wicket again or LBW 2nd choice.
ELLIOTT with an astonishing average of about 20 in 2005-2007 for SA
is now captain, whilst a young man with an ave of 25-30 in 2005-2007 FERGUSON gets dropped.
And no ADCOCK in the team !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MANOU isnt in the team, so we have a chance against WA.

Blewett should still be in the team if he is worse then Elliott then i will happily jump off the glenelg jetty with concrete boots..........

Ahh didn't realise that pafc1870 - thanks for pointing it out. I guess Elliot is the obvious choice then, I can't really see anyone else being able to do it...

Elliott was caught at square leg after skying a pull shot.

Blewet needed to play (and has needed to all season). At least he can still field and bowl a little (and better than Cosgrove), so this alone would put him ahead of Elliot averaging under 20 in my book.

One less tiger supporter.

Blewett has been wearing those exact same shoes at the crease for about three seasons. As for Elliott, the SACA are in a tight spot. They recruited the guy and he isn't performing so they are looking more than a little red faced. Elliott is probably just as finished as Blewett at the mo. As one commentator has said 'he hasn't been the same player since cleaning up his knee with Mark Waugh in that Sydney test'. While I don't know about that (See Elliots 1997 Ashes tour), maybe that injury is now catching up with him in a big way.

You are right there REB, but if the selectors are going to play someone like elliot who is clearly finished, then they might as well put blewitt in his place, probably get the same result with the bat you might get a couple of decent overs out of him as well.
