Librarian Colin Clowes has selected his alltime NSW XI as the Blues celebrate 150 years of first class cricket. The side is listed below

Arthur Morris
Bob Simpson
Don Bradman
Victor Trumper
Charlie Macartney
Steve Waugh
Billy Murdoch (wk)
Richie Benaud
Alan Davidson
Ray Lindwall
Charles Turner
Bill O'Reilly

The following selection rules were adopted.

The player must have debuted for NSW (ruled out are Harvey and Miller)
The player must not have gone on to greater deeds whilist representing another state (ruling out Border, Thompson, Gilchrist)

Still the omission of Glen McGrath must stand up as one of the clangers of all time. McGrath has taken more wickets than any fast bowler in test history. Here's REB's all time Blues XI, based on state of origin.

Arthur Morris
Bob Simpson
Don Bradman
Victor Trumper
Allan Border
Steve Waugh
Adam Gilchrist
Richie Benaud
Alan Davidson
Ray Lindwall
Bill O'Reilly
Glen McGrath

12th Doug Walters

Apologies: Monty Noble, Charlie McCartney, Stan McCabe, That Turner fellow who bowled on uncovered wickets, Warren Bardsley and Murdoch. No apologies for 'soft dismissal' Waugh or 'Nicker' Taylor. Librarians, sheesh..what do they know about cricket

regards,

REB

How does this book reader leave out arguably the 2nd best Australian fast bowler
in the history of the game.
MCGRATH is the highest wicket taking fast bowler in test history
I would pick BRADMAN first and then OOH AHH 2nd in my team.

AH will be absolutely livid Brett LEE did not make this team

Leaving out McGrath is a big call. It would be tough to leave him out of an world all time XI let alone a state one.

The point being missed here is that Colin Clowes selected his team based only on state statistics.

Davidson, Lindwall, Turner and O'Reilly all played a lot more often for NSW and took a stack more wickets for them than McGrath did. So it makes sense that they were picked ahead of him.

Unless I've added up wrong, you've actually picked 13 players. 12 players plus D. Walters as your 12th player. Care to explain.

If he was picking a team of best "First Class" cricketers then leaving McGrath and others out is probably OK I guess, if there are others with better records in first class matches, obviously because they played a lot more first class cricket than Pigeon.

Anyone care to have a crack at South Australia's best, based on state of origin, like REB's 12, sorry 13 !

All time best is all time best. Once you start adding in qualifications, then it is only a Librarians XI.
