Interesting move to see Hayden back in the mix. Experience counts for plenty in the World Cup and with no one else really grabbing the opportunity to open with Gilchrist, Australia can fall back to the trusted Hayden. A good move IMO. White has also forced his selection.

They have named pretty much every first class cricketer in the squad of 30, to be halved for the World Cup. Will probably just add two to the Comm Bank squad to make it to the World Cup. Most probably Watson and Haddin?

The triangular one day series can often be a bit boring IMO, but with the World Cup coming up straight after, it should add some interest.

I would say the Australian side for the first Comm. Bank ODI would be something like:

Gilchrist
Hayden
Ponting
Clarke
Symonds
Hussey
Hogg
Lee
Johnson
Bracken
McGrath
************
White
Clark

Clark to play when McGrath rested, ditto for Haddin when Gilchrist rested.

well its really a 29 man squad at Hackitch is in there....

actuallly dissappointed that Cosgrove is in there, would have been a great opportunity for the selectors to say your not in the top 30 cricketers in Oz...might have waken him up...now he will probably eat more maccas and drink more beers satisfied he made the initial squad!!!

I have to agree on your Cossy comment

the interest is in the second openers spot, Hayden, Jaques, Rogers all lining up, others such as Katich and Watson have been tried, while Hussey could possibly move up

there also seems to be some good competition for the spinner role, Hogg's first crack but White and Cullen are waiting for their opportunity

The way the Redbacks have been playing.
There's no surprise there won't be any picked...
Still, I reckon Shaun Tait deserves a shot!

I think Cameron White has a great chance of making the ODI side as a batsman alone and the way he has been playing of late, he certainly deserves a look in. Having said that, I don't rate his legspin at all and Cullen appears to be Hogg's direct replacement.

Symonds & Clarke can easily fill the void with their part-time spin.

If Australia didn't have such a large gap until their next Test series, I'd be calling for Gilly to be replaced in our 1 day side (not World Cup though), as I think we need to start looking after him.
If he doesn't retire from 1 dy cricket after the World Cup, they should replace him, to protect his Test level longevity
