Don Bradman is the best batsmen the world has ever seen, without a doubt.
I'd suggest that Shane Warne is the best leg-spin bowler ever, also- would it be going too far to say the best bowler?
Also, would Glenn McGrath be considered the best too?

If that's not on the money, then who is considered the best bowler of all time?

Not for mine. I still rate Lillee ahead of McGrath.

Maybe we could make a claim for the best ever keeper/batsman, Adam Gilchrist. Certainly no keeper has been a better batsman.

And this would be hard to judge, but I doubt there's ever been a better slips fielder than Bob Simpson. He was incredible.

I'd go Warne ahead of Lillee.

Greatest allrounder - Garry Sobers.

Colin Cowdrey was also a superb slipper.

Alan knott 4 me would be close to the best from all reports , did see him play but was only young.

Can't disagree, it's hard to think of a better keeper over the years.

Knott did have to keep to Deadly Derek Underwood, but not in the same class as keeping to Warney.

Healy for mine - was always my favourite Australian player growing up and he never missed a dismissal opportunity (except famously that one in Pakistan).

Best slipper - going on what I've read Bob Simpson, some might say Shane Warne, but he's managed to grass a few easy ones in the past five years. Mark Waugh was also very good too.

Best fieldsman - Paul Sheahan and Ricky Ponting would have dibs, while Colin Bland of South Africa was supposedly very good too, but you'd have to plump for Jonty wouldn't you? Revolutionised out fielding.

FWIW Alan McGuillvray rates Lindwall ahead of Lillee, and having seen all of Australia's bowlers from Jack Gregory to Craig McDermott, McGuillvray would be in a fair position to know..

Didn't see Knott play that much but he had beautifully soft hands, Greg Chappell rated Knott marginally better than Marsh in his book Unders and Overs however amrsh arguiably rates behind Healy and Tallon in the Parthenon of Australian 'keepers....

There is a damn good case for healy to berated the b et 'keeper of all time especillay his work to Bevan let alone Warne and May who had control, a couple of Healy's dissmissals off Bevan were pure class and showed great technique as a 'keeper especially as the chances were off poor balls from Bevan - one in the Adelaide test in 96-97 of a wide full toss - he stayed low as all great natural keepers do and another off a wide half volley down leg side at Old Trafford to get Butcher who made the mistake of over balancng for a fraction of a second....

Bottom line it is damn hard to judge between eras....

Trueman was a great fast bowler, not to forget Hall, Holding, Ambrose and Roberts

Warne best Spin bowler ever.

Don't forget about slippers Greg Chappell and Junior. Made it look easy the pair of em.

Victor Richardson said that Jack GREGORY was one of the greatest slip fieldsman.
He made that reference in a book he authored in the 1960s
GREGORY was considered in hs time to be one of the best fast bowlers in the world
He played about 80 years ago.

Perhaps the best outfielder might be ROY as well.

Some would say Sobers,as his batting and bowling would have had him picked on the basis of one or the other,to be blessed with both perhaps makes him the most complete cricketer ever.Or a Botham or Imran or Davis or Hadlee....

Or,do the astounding feats of Bradman stand him alone at the top?

Or does the impact Warne has had on the millions around the world who now throw down the odd "leggie" or "flipper" in the back yard make him the best of all time.He must also be remembered for being a handy (ahem) at times batsman and capable slipper.

So,who is it?

No question Bradman is the greatest cricketer of all time. Not just that but no-one has been as good at what they do as Bradman was at cricket in any sport and it is unlikely anyone ever will be. To talk about the influence Warne has had on the game is a fair point but go back to the Bradman era and his influence would have been just as profound not if more.
