Attendance Record about to be broken?

Postby spell_check » Tue Dec 19, 2006 10:01 pm

According to Test Cricket Lists, the 1936-37 Ashes Test at Melbourne had 350,534 spectators, the biggest confirmed attendance for a Test match anywhere.
(An estimated 394,000 was at the Calcutta test between India and England in 1981-82)

Could that total of 350,534 be broken this Test?

Had the series still been alive I would have had no hesitation in saying yes, but apart from Warnie seeking his 700th wicket (which he could well get on day 1) I don't believe there's a great deal to attract a record 5-day crowd.

Beating the Poms is attraction enough. Series or no series. The Melbourne people will be there.
