Matthew Elliott joined SA for the 2005/2006 season after a long
and illustrious career for Victoria and Australia.
A magnificent left handed opening batsman in his pre SA days.
After a bit of ribbing from BAYMAN I must now give you Elliotts
startling stats playing for his newly adopted state.
HERE ARE HIS PURA CUP STATS not o/d stats where he does better.

SEASON 2005/2006
----------------------

NSW... B MACGILL............... 20
...........LBW MCGRATH.......... 02
QLD....C SYMONDS B BICHEL.05
..........LBW JOHNSON.............23
VIC....LBW DENTON...............01
..........LBW WISE...................11
TAS....C BEVAN B DREW........16
.........C BAILEYbHILFENHAUS.18

SEASON 2006/2007
-------------------------

VIC....C CROTHSWAITE B DENTON..19
..........LBW DENTON.......................07
NSW...C NICHOLSON B CALRK........00
.........LBW CLARK..........................06
TAS...C DIVINUTO B DREW.............43
.........B HILFENHAUS......................81
QLD...C WATSON B BICHEL.............00

15 INNINGS FOR 252 RUNS AVE 16-80
ONE FIFTY
0 HUNDREDS

Draw your own conclusions
He might have got a good ball for his 0 this game v QLD,
but looks like hes been facing jaffas for 2 years.

I wouldnt mind betting he gets out LBW in the 2nd dig v QLD
have a look at his modes of dismissal in the 2nd innings
Judging by that I would say he has a technical defiency of sorts.

Kind of makes a mockery out of Blewetts ommission from the p/cup team :!:

I would suggest if SA gets no points in the next 2 games its time for the
selectors to make a not so courageuous decision.

Having persecuted Matty with my post, I would be more than pleased if
he scored some big numbers and SA starts winning more p/cup games.
At this stage he is a MATCHLOSER.

I was rapt when it was announced that Elliot had been recruited to SA, but all he has done is added his name to a long list of dissapointments that have made there way over to play for the Redbacks.

I think Greg and Matty are rowing in the same boat, both players on $250k contracts and both players have not delivered

To be fair, we've done very well from other states and countries over the years .. just not of late.

as ROD ROOSTER mentioned ELLIOTT has had more chances then Blewy and uite clearly he hasnt delivered and he doesnt belong in the first 12, mind you he isnt the only one that isnt delivering.

Matty has been in both squads for the year, while Blewy has been left out of the pura cup team. surely when the team has been failing there would be a spot for Blewy to come back in!!!!!!!

if Blewy cant get a game then Matty shouldnt be there along with a few of the others!!!!!!!!!!!

I got excited about the state of the game when we bowled QLD out for a low total, yet we just capitulate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

as MAL has pointed out how can anybody only average 9.9 with a high score of 23 at ADELAIDE OVAL?????????????????????? HOW

Time to give the youth a go, Tommy Plant to get another shot at opening. I think it was the last match of 04/05 he made a ton against the Vics and hasn't been tried since.

Jason Borgas should get the call up for this Saturday's game against Vic, maybe to replace Ferguson. JB scored another big ton (150) on Saturday, as did Tom Plant. Deitz could be called in to replace Manou. Will be interesting to see who comes in for Taity ... possibly Kelly or Putland???

GREAT PREDICTIONS EAGS

ELLIOTT made 16 + 4 v WA

A great career is ending in despair, he must evaluate the damage he is doing
to his career, this will be a very difficiult decision.

ELLIOTT 4
MAL 1
BRADMAN 0

Its no disgrace to fail in your last innings.

I would say it's time for Elliott to go, but I have no idea who to replace him with.

ELLIOTT V VICTORIA

ELLIOTT... 3
MAL..........1
BRADMAN.0

Good time to retire, 3 is better than the other 2 guys who have retired.

Mal, you've made your point about Elliott, and the selectors. Now I challenge you to select the SA team for the next Pura Cup match (and also nominate the captain). I'd be very interested in what you come up with. And it has to be a team from available players, not the best team if everyone was fit and in form. Selection is not as simple a process as what some people may believe.

Oh .. and 0 is Bradman's last TEST innings, not his last 1st class innings. :)
