Clarke has been touted as the next batting superstar in Australia ever since his 100 on debut against India, but since then he has failed to live up to the hype.
After been out of the Australian team for over a year Michael Clarke has made a terriffic come back in the Ashes series with scores of 56 at the GABBA plus 124 and 21no.

PROS
1. The lesson of being dropped seems to have really made him appreciate his spot in the team
2. A hundered against any esatablished test side is a fair effort
3. Has still been able to maintain his brilliant fielding ability
4. Has alot of time on his side

CONS
1. The runs have come on probably the two best batting wickets in the country.
2. He has come in with plenty of runs on the board.
3. The runs have been against an attack with only 1 1/2 bowlers (Hoggard + 1/2 fit Flintoff)

IS HE FINALLY THE REAL DEAL

PRO

He appears to improved his shot selection, something that was a real worry in my eyes. I think he'll go on to have a good career even though I think someone like Brad Haddin is the better batsman.

Brad Haddin is a very good cricket and will be a very good keeper/batsman for Australia eventually but no way is he as good a batsman as Clarke.

Disagree with you there rod (surprise surprise)

If Haddin had the same opportunites as Pup, I'm sure he'd outscore him. I've watched a lot of NSW this season and I've yet to see Clarke outperform Haddin.

LOL. Only my opinion mally and I've been wrong so often that I have to bump any threads when I actually get one right ha ha. Haddin is the more experienced player and from what I've seen he has Pup covered, particualarly in one day cricket as Haddin is very versatile with a better cricket brain.

Who cares about one day cricket. You can be good at one day cricket without being a good cricketer. Test cricket shows who is and who isn't a good cricketer.

Before the NSW innings v QLD o/d game HADDIN was the leading rungetter
in the comp with 251 runs at 84 in the o/d comp.
The NSW champion wicketkeeper is the unluckiest player in the galaxy, he
would have been a sensational keeper/batsman and perhaps the next best
after Sangikarra and Boucher or better in the world.
GILCHRIST the greatest off all batting keepers has kept a remarkable player
from playing for his country.
HADDIN bats well in pura cup games, and his efforts in Australia A games is excellent.

REB your statement that HADDIN is better than CLARKE might appear ludicrous
on face value, but not in reality.

May have missed one test on tour in India in 1979 and was 12 th man once in 79-80 in a oneday game like Chappell never dropped for an extended period of time....

I'm sure i am having a mental blank and it is really obvious but when was Mark Waugh dropped other than ending his career? I'm sure he was but i can't remember when or circumstances.

I think he got dropped for the famous W Phillips test in Perth in January 92, G Marsh got dropped too and some hack spinner called Warne????

In came W Phillips, Moody and Reiffel, came back as opener in Sri Lanka got four ducks but wasn't dropped from then on IIRC

BAck on topic, I think/hope M Clarke has turned the corner and go from strength to strength as the linchpin of our battling line up in the 2nd decade of this century......

Thanks Tassie, you're right. Don't think M. Waugh opened in any test matches in SL though. 4 ducks on the trot for sure though. Dean Jones got dropped after the SL tour in favour of S. Waugh batting at 3 for the West Indies tour.

Agree about Clarke too. His innings yesterday was all class.

You are right about M.Waugh opening in the Sri Lankan series. It was Tom Moody who got the gig
