First Class Cricket Talk (International and State)

BBL 2020/21

Postby brod » Sat Nov 14, 2020 11:10 am

The Adelaide Strikers have finalised their international roster with the addition of Danny Briggs, the most prolific wicket-taker in the history of England’s domestic Twenty20 competition.

Since his first-class debut in 2009, the 29-year-old has become a mainstay of English cricket, playing almost 400 fixtures across all formats.

In domestic Twenty20 cricket, Briggs has played more than 150 games and taken 172 wickets, the most of any player in the competition’s history. With best bowling figures of 5/19, Briggs is a skilful left-arm spinner with the ability to deceive the batsmen in a variety of ways.

To go with his domestic achievements, Briggs has also represented his country at both one day international and T20 level.

This comes after the Strikers announced that Rasheed Khan and Phil Salt would return:

Superstar Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan will again light up the KFC Big Bash League with the Adelaide Strikers in BBL|10.

Rashid is the third-highest wicket-taker for the Strikers with 56 from just 40 matches, and the best economy of those who have bowled more than 10 innings with 6.36.

Powerful opening batsman Phil Salt will return to Adelaide this summer after re-signing for a second season in Strikers blue.

Making his KFC Big Bash debut last year, the electric right-hander scored 361 runs at a strike-rate of 164, smashing 45 boundaries and 12 sixes and registering four half-centuries during the campaign.

They have introduced some Mickey Mouse rules

The 12/13th player is a useless idea, there is not enough depth in the squads for the 12/13th man to be game changing imo
Dave Warner will be missed!

Just saw the signings/re-signings for the Strikers. Good to see Johnson get another opportunity. Let's hope he doesn't do a Bruce Reid (or Breece Rude) and snap in half like he has in the past. It was odds on that Scott got a contract. Nielsen promised him the world to get him here from NSW and in reality whilst he has done well, he's been parachuted ahead of some of the locals which has allowed him to jump the queue and the opportunity to perform. He's not that much better than a couple of the other players the same age here is SA.
Doubt whether either of them would get a game anyway.

Carey signs for Strikers....Lehmann not offered contract

Carey completes Strikers squad for BBL|10
World-class wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey will remain with the Adelaide Strikers for the next four years, completing the squad for KFC BBL|10.

The 29-year-old first joined the Strikers in 2017 ahead of BBL|06, and already sits third on the runscorer tally with 1163 runs from his 35 matches played, including one century and six half-centuries. The classy gloveman is also top of the pile for Strikers dismissals, with 37, featuring 33 catches and four stumpings.

Carey will first take the gloves in Australia’s ODI and T20I series against India beginning 27 November, and it is expected he will link up with the Strikers through December.

With a full squad now assembled, the Strikers are ready to hit the ground running for a huge tenth season of the Big Bash.

The Strikers thank Jake Lehmann for his services to the club. Lehmann was not offered a contract for BBL|10. The club recognises his efforts as a playing member of the maiden Championship team, and his spritely character has contributed copious amounts since BBL|05.

Jake Lehmann had a massive fall from grace last 12 months.

Was around then the paper was writing how he could be picked for Australia (which was a joke at the time though!!).

Not so much a few years ago, he was the next best thing, remember when he came out with one ball to spare and he hit it for 6 to give us the win? I can't work out how a batsman can lose form so suddenly, you generally either have it or you don't.

What a waste of time the super sub is. The batting sub will be the seventh best bat in the team. As if they are going to come out when a team's in trouble and save the day. None of these teams have the depth to make it work.

F*** me, talk about flogging a dead horse, Brayshaw (I think) raving on about what a hum-dinger first up, Flemo talking up how Christian looks calm and prime to save the day then Braithwaite comes out and could be the saviour, they need about 15 p.o when Dan came out then about 3 runs per ball when Daryl came to the crease with 11 balls spare.

This would have to be the poorest quality domestic T20 competition being played world wide, even Zimbabwe get some big name players.

My name is Booney and I have an admission to make. I watched some BBL last night. I even tweeted about it.

I was at a low point. I hadn't seen any cricket this summer as I'm not willing to pay to watch spoilt brats and increase the size of their pay and ego.

James Brayshaw spent a few minutes talking about Peter Siddle's blonde hair. He then bagged him that his hair was as white as his teeth.

I think I've got a problem.
PAFC. Forever.

Yep, it's still some form of cricket and it's free, beats the rest of the snot that any other channel has to offer.

There's f*** all on TV nowadays, I look forward to waking up at 4am on the weekends to watch "My Greek Odyssey", that and Russell Coight and it's just pictures on a screen.
