Heres an idea... aim a well pitched ball at the stumps which seem rather exposed whilst Broad backs away for the short ball that is inevitably served up. Why are we trying to buy Broads wicket? Hes not that good...

Bancroft had no idea about that ball.
Played all around it.

He won’t make a run in South Africa with his technique

He’ll struggle to make the squad surely?
Probably only makes it due to no other cricket being played here at Shield level.

Bancroft ain't up to opening the bat, been way to defensive since the second test onwards, batting for survival only.
Ooz opens, Smith goes to 3 or stays at 4 and find another replacement.
No diff with Ooz opening.
Bancroft would rather leave a shit short ball outside off than smack it over cover/gully.
No balls, no good.
Burns for one is in fine form.
Plenty of others as options as well.

Well at the moment the next guys in line for the second openers spot would have to be Joe Burns and Jake Weatherald. Makes for an interesting second half of the shield season.

Yeah Burns was a bit stiff to be dropped originally.
I’d say Burns stats for Australia would be better than Bancroft and Renshaw.

Unfortunately the upcoming Sheffield shield matches have no bearing. The squad for Sth Africa is selected b4 the season resumes. The ACB continues to put dollars from BBL ahead of players showing form in the longer form of the game. So Weatherald floundering in the BBL will kill his chance to jump into Bancrofts spot. Safety first decision is to go with Joe Burns.

Stoneman ain't a great shortleg, his balance seems to be going backwards. Makes it very hard to grab a ball that drops in front of him.
