Good thread

Flavel
Hill
Bradman
Chappell, I
Hookes
Lehmann
Sobers
Langley
Griffen
Gillespie
Grimmett

Chappell G (12th) - just shades Nug for the gig!

Garner and Richards whilst their ability (Richards especially) would get them a spot but in terms of runs and wickets for SA not in our best XI. Simialrly for GS Chappell - five seasons only. Despite one year Sobers still gets a gong

Are we talking runs and wickets or are we talking talent and impact?

For instance Siddons and Gillespie come into the debate ( IMO ) if you're talking about numbers posted, if you're just talking ability then Siddons perhaps dips out.

Probably be better to start decade by decade.

It's too hard to generalize as cricket has changed dramatically over the years along with the quality of opposition and time spent with national duties, games played should also come into it.

I'm talking the best ever - sheer talent.............2 of these players would make the best ever World Test X1 (maybe Richards too)

The SA stats don't necessarily matter

Although Richards made 1538 run in the 1970/71 season

Tim May or Peter Sleep worth a mention you'd think?

Neither May or Sleep are in the same ballpark as Giffen or Grimmett.

Yeah I know but I never saw those 2 play.
Sleepy was definitely a favourite of mine though.

One of my favourite Tim May moments was when he bowled Ken Healy (brother of Ian, in his first and last Shield game) between his legs padding up whilst bowling around the wicket at Adelaide Oval.

Decent bloke Sounda, bit of a lad and was always willing to pass on his knowledge to aspiring spinners.
