Chadd Sayers

The bloke has taken truckload of Shield wickets.

At every level he has played he has been successful but the perception has always been that he's not quick enough or tall enough to succeed at the next level. Eventually weight of wickets forces the selectors' hand a lo-and-behold he keeps taking wickets in the next level up.

Is he destined to get an opportunity? Or will he and Jamie Siddons have something in common to lament over a beer at career's end?

I really hope he plays, he probably hasn't been helped by the fact we have always in his time had one gun super quick (Johnson and Starc) and have had a pretty decent line and length bowler (Siddle, Hazelwood) meaning there has only ever been one spot up for grabs for a pacemen and the selectors have stayed away from having two out and out line and length bowlers

Would be great to see him get a gig at the GABBA, gut feel tells me he will play as the ball was swerving like a fish in the day night Chairmans 11 game in Queensland due to the humidity

Said yes more out of optimism than anything else. There wouldn't be too many bowlers who've had the success he's had on roads and not played a test.

Saw an article the other day, i think on Cricket.com.au

Sayers has taken more wickets over the past 5 years than anyone else in shield cricket. Mennie was second, Bird third.

Only Sayers and Michael hogan were in the top dozen that had not played for Australia in any form

Hogan is very unlucky especially considering his good record in England

If Sayers doesn't get the nod today, can we rightfully assume his chances of playing for Australia are gone?

Cummins and Pattinson on the comeback trail, and we know how much CA love these two, would think they'll automatically jump up the pecking order.

Then throw in Tremain, Behrendorff, Mennie, even Richardson who CA have shown interest in the past with.. makes difficult times for Sayers :(

Hoping they drop Bird for Sayers but that won't happen.

I don't agree on them dropping Lyon and playing 4 quicks.

Didn't Smith say yesterday Bird was a definite starter?

Yeh between Chadd and Lyon. Announcing it at 10am apparently

Pretty annoying for those of us who were hoping to fly up to see it

Highly doubt it. Lyon is quite productive at the GABBA.
