England vs Australia ODI squad named

Postby Gozu » Wed Aug 12, 2015 10:20 pm

This is the squad for the five match ODI series against England, an ODI against Ireland and a T20 match against England. The limited overs stuff stars on the 27th August with the ODI against Ireland. No VC named yet but expected to be Warner.

Australian squad: Steve Smith (capt), Ashton Agar, George Bailey, Joe Burns, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Patrick Cummins, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, James Pattinson, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade (wk), Shane Watson, David Warner, Cameron Boyce (T20I only)

A real exciting and strong looking squad despite the retirements/resting players.

Great to see Agar get the nod instead of Doherty as the specialist spinner. A much better all round cricketer than Doherty let alone spinner.

Joe Burns should get a start at the top of the order and Watson still has plenty to offer in ODI colours.

I've been really excited to see Pattinson bowling again for Australia A, hopefully he can get some wickets against England now. Hopefully we can at least win the ODI series now.

First Game against the Poms
Warner,Burns, Smith, Watson,Bailey, Maxwell,Wade,Agar, Starc, Pattison, Cummins
Or Play Marsh and leave out One of the bowlers and squeeze 10 overs out between Maxwell and Watson. But I like having 3 strike quicks.

Why not Nathan Lyon?

Well I guess they obviously want to keep him for test match cricket only.

Agar is a good option and probably better suited to ODI cricket as he can bat better than Lyon and is a really good all round fieldsman aswell.

We're obviously building/looking towards the next World Cup aswell which I think Agar will be a part of.

F@ck the Ashes. There is no World Cup in test cricket. One day cricket is the most important form of the game, the most popular and the reason why the sport was revolutionised. We are the world champions, bring on the Poms.

I nearly convinced myself ;)

I might be a little biased but I fail to see why Cam Ferguson was ever dropped from the ODI side and why he couldn't slot straight back in now that Pup has gone, he's the most like for like player as Pup and we have enough stroke makers in the side to compliment a worker of the ball that will still strike at 90+ without risking his wicket.

WTF are they resting him from  English sunstroke? He has played 8 days of test cricket in a month and is a batter

Hard to take the series too seriously if the Poms aren't. Having said that I dare say I won't miss much of it, sleep pending.

Just to clarify the 20/20 starts at midnight of Sept 1st (Monday night) whilst the 1 dayers start Wednesday at 11pm.

Cheers, I stand corrected. That's a bit odd we play an ODI vs Ireland then a T20 against the poms and then the ODI series against them.

So 7.45 Thursday night then according to WWOS. That's a much more reasonable time. Looking forward to that one.

It doesn't look like the ODI vs Ireland is going to be on TV, nothing listed for all 3 of Nine's channels.
