Mumbai Nov 20: Prithvi Shaw of Rizvi Springfield school has set a new record in school cricket by smashing 546 in the Elite Division of the Harris Shield cricket tournament (Under-16 inter-school) here at Azad Maidan on Wednesday.

Azad Maidan is the same ground where Sachin Tendulkar (326*) and Vinod Kambli (349*) shared a massive 664-run partnership for Sharadashram Vidyamandir in February, 1988 in the same Harris Shield tournament.

This is the first time in Harris Shield cricket history that a batsman has scored over 500 runs. The previous record was 498. Shaw hit 546 off 330 balls (367 minutes, 85x4, 5x6). 370 runs came in boundaries (340 in fours and 30 in sixes).

Today's score of 546 is the highest individual score in any form of cricket in India. Overall this is the third highest in the history of the game, according to BCCI's statistican Mohandas Menon.

"14-year-old Prithvi Shaw of Rizvi Springfield made 546, the HS in any class of cricket after 628* AEJ Collins in 1899 & 566 CJ Eady in 1901," Menon tweeted.

"The prev HS by an Indian in any cricket: 515 Dadabhoy Havewala for BB & CI Railway vs St Xavier's College at Bombay during 1933/34 season," he wrote in another tweet.

Shaw began the day on 257 against St Francis D'Assisi. The 15-year-old right-hander had scored 27 boundaries and three sixes in his 166-ball stay on Tuesday.

Today, Shaw completed a record 500, according to reports on the micro-blogging site Twitter. On Wednesday afternoon, Twitter was abuzz with Shaw's record score. Prithvi Shaw was trending on Twitter with lots of tweets comparing the youngster to Tendulkar.

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer's nephew held the previous record. Armaan Jaffer had hit 498 in Harris Shield.

Springfield coach Raju Pathak was quoted by "DNA" newspaper on Tuesday, as saying, "We have two days and I have told Prithvi to go on without pressurising him for a 400. He is a talented batsman and plays without any pressure."

Even if it is a small oval it's a damn good effort for someone that age to compile such a big score without throwing it away
