Big Bash set to move to Ten + No love for Ryobi Cup

Poorly rating Ten would also lose money paying $100 million over five years for the Big Bash, but is desperate to attract significant sports content.

Fox Sports has done an outstanding job showing the first two seasons of the revamped eight-team Big Bash, but has no interest in matching Ten's offer.

Cricket Australia is excited about the extra exposure the Big Bash will receive on free to air, lifting its viewers from about 250,000 a match on Fox Sports, one of its highest rating events, to an estimated 700,000 to 800,000.

While the big winner appears to be the Big Bash, the loser looks to be the unloved Ryobi Cup.

Despite a proposal to turn the meandering the state-based 50-over competition into an October carnival, it appears no network is interested in spending more than $2 million in production costs for little return.

I actually like the 50 over matches, I know the middle overs get criticised but I think they are still quite tactical and the lead ebbs and flows quite often.

I remember when One HD showed the first season of the IPL and the in-studio host was that Mark Howard clown and the guest commentators in there with him were guys like Ryan Campbell, Stuart Clark & Jason Gillespie. In saying that I'll watch the BBL if it's on FTA.

I too prefer the 50 over ODD games. CA should just force Channel 9 to take it back with the international rights and if they don't want to show say a game a weekend on their main channel put them on Gem or Go.

I like the 50 over game 2, as I think the Big Bash should be the state sides like it was started out at least we were the last state to win when it was a state based comp. don't get me wrong I'll still watch it and follow Adelaide, just that it should be a state based comp.

This BBL has no interest for me. Bring back State v State then I will be more inclined to watch or attend a game.....

You do however seem to have a large interest in letting people know that you have no interest in it.

Am I not allowed to voice my opinion? Thought that is what forums are for.

I sincerely apologise for having a differing opinion that does not follow the main stream masses :?

Big jump in TV rights for Cricket Australia:

A $300 million TV deal between Channel 9 and a Bermuda-based billionaire will lead today to the richest pay day in the history of Australian cricket.

After a weekend of intense negotiations, Nine chief David Gyngell was on track last night to finalise a landmark deal with Bruce Gordon to purchase his WIN TV stations in Adelaide and Perth.

The deal means Channel 9 will be able to match Network Ten's audacious $500 million bid to broadcast Test and one-day cricket, including the Ashes this summer.

But the deal is also a victory for Ten's newly installed chief Hamish McLennan, with the third-placed network to win rights to broadcast the Big Bash Twenty20 tournament for the next five years for about $20 million a year.

Between the Nine and Ten deals, Cricket Australia will receive more than $100 million a season, a massive jump on the $57 million it received under its previous deals.

Part of the conditions of Channel 9 getting the new deal is that all matches will be live even in the City where the game is being played. :D

That's good news, finally some common sense.

The talk is that the ABC are in negotiations with CA about the ODD comp (Ryobi Cup).

You would assume after all this there will be a number of TV commentary defections from Fox Sports to Ten/ABC.
