West End Redbacks’ fast bowlers, Gary Putland and Peter George, have been included in a 13-man squad for the season defining Bupa Sheffield Shield match against the NSW SpeedBlitz at the SCG starting tomorrow.

Selectors have also included leg-spinner, Cullen Bailey in the squad for the must-win clash.

George has been rewarded for his recent form in the Toyota Futures League, taking 5/48 against Western Australia, and figures of 6/30 in a recent Adelaide grade match for West Torrens.

Gary Putland, who bowled for grade club Southern District on the weekend, returns to the squad for the first time since injuring his quad in a Ryobi One Day Cup clash in February.

Putland has taken 19 wickets from just three Bupa Sheffield Shield matches this season, including match figures of 12/92 against the Commonwealth Bank Victorian Bushrangers in November.

Carl Tietjens has been omitted from the team that lost to the Warriors by one wicket.

The team flies to Sydney this morning and will train at the SCG from 2.00pm.

Promising opener Daniel Hughes will make his First Class debut for the NSW SpeedBlitz Blues in their vital Bupa Sheffield Shield clash with South Australia at the SCG starting on Thursday (14 March).

The 24 year old left-handed opening bat has already played four Big Bash matches for the Sydney Sixers and one Ryobi Cup match this season, but will step out in the Bupa Sheffield Shield for the first time in the final qualifying match of the campaign.

Chris Tremain also returns to the squad. The pair replace Brad Haddin (Australia) and Doug Bollinger (hamstring injury).

The NSW SpeedBlitz Blues could still make the Final of the Shield, and even host it.

The results that are needed for this to happen are listed below :

To reach second, as follows-

•NSW defeats SA outright
•Tas does not defeat Vic outright, but ok for either team to win on first innings
•WA v Qld is a first-innings result only, with no further outright result
To host, as follows-

•NSW defeats SA outright
•Tas defeats Vic on first innings only, and with no further outright result
•WA v Qld is a first-innings result only, with no outright result
The squad is :

Ben Rohrer ( Captain )

Trent Copeland

David Dawson

Josh Hazlewood

Daniel Hughes

Scott Henry

Nic Maddinson

Peter Nevill

Steve O’Keefe

Gurinder Sandhu

Chris Tremain

Adam Zampa

What are the scenarios required to happen for the Redbacks to play in or host the final?

Re: SA v NSW 14/3-17/3

VIC 28
SA 26
WA 26
QLD 24
TAS 24
NSW 23

Final Round
NSW vs SA
TAS vs VIC
WA vs QLD

We need to win or just win first innings and hope for a series or draws over all games

the current shield table
VIC 28
SA 26
WA 26
TAS 24
QLD 24
NSW 23

Final Round
NSW vs SA
TAS vs VIC
WA vs QLD

If we win outright, we are there, and maybe hosting (though I'm not too sure how the quotient works, so not sure if WA smash Qld if they would go ahead or not).

If we score 0 points, we need Tasmania and Queensland to not get any points, if Tas or Qld get points they will go ahead of us.

If we only get 1st innings points, we need the WA to get no more than 1st innings points, and Tas and Qld not to win outright. We also need to not lose outright to NSW.

I'm sure there are a lot more possible scenarios than that, but is a guide. Our poor quotient could kill us.

Chuck gets bagged in here alot. But before he came here did we win the t20 or the ryobi? And would've we been second on the Shield with one game left.
If we win that's three finals in all three forms, pretty good I would've thought

Stop talking sense!!

He gets bagged because of the OL Scoob factor, and half the nuffs here fall for it.

F U Scoob ;)

NSW SpeedBlitz Blues: David Dawson, Scott Henry, Daniel Hughes, Nic Maddinson, Ben Rohrer (c), Peter Nevill (wk), Trent Copeland, Steve O'Keefe, Gurinder Sandhu, Josh Hazlewood, Christopher Tremain, Adam Zampa (12th)

West End Redbacks: Alex Carey, Sam Raphael, Michael Klinger, Callum Ferguson, Travis Head, Jake Brown, Tim Ludeman (wk), Johan Botha (c), Chadd Sayers, Gary Putland, Peter George, Cullen Bailey (12th)

George and Putland in for Mennie and Tietjens. An All-South Australian pace bowling attack!

Looks like showers may have an impact in Sydney and in Perth (WA vs QLD). Will be a very interesting 4 days of cricket following all 3 matches (plus the Test).

NSW win the toss and send SA in.

Mennie must be injured or it seems a strange move.

Would have brought James Smith in for Raphael, but hopefully Raph makes a huge score. Klinger needs to bat at 3.
