Looks like Starc will hold his position as it looks that James Pattinson is set to be rested for this test.
Unless they take MJ over MS for the match.
But their has to be two spinners

Huge test for Lyon, you would think Doherty will get a crack this test, whoever finishes the series better out the two will most likely get first crack in the Ashes.

Both are crap, how can the leading spinner in the shield this season not even get a gig to India, what a joke

What a comment. Any spinner would have been collared by Dhoni in that last test. Lyon has good control but needs to be a little more patient and take some pace off a few more deliveries. It would also have helped Lyon to have another tweaker bowling at the other end as well IMO.

The long line of people lining up to have a crack at Lyon is an even bigger joke. Replace him with spinner number ninety seven since Warne pulled the pin? A bit late for that with the Ashes coming up this year. No one is champing at the bit as the obvious replacement for Lyon so how about backing the bloke wearing the Baggy Green.

Lyon shits all over O'Keefe but then again Jim05 used to say O'Keefe was better than Hauritz even when Hauritz was the leading wicket-taker in the 2009/10 Test series against Pakistan.

Didnt say drop Lyon, he is currently the best we have but SOK is a far better option than Doherty or Maxwell if we are going to play 2 spinners.

We were only beaten by a right handed gilchrist. Lyon more than held his own. Bring in Mitch Johnson. Smash a few of those spinners hands and see how they go bowling.

What my point more is, is that if Lyon finishes with another 2/200 and Doherty happens to get a 5 fa etc etc, their is the real chance they may go with the 'in form' spinner straight up in the Ashes. Remembering Lyon didn't have a great Aussie summer either.

No matter what happens in India, they will want a off spinner in England

Agree and now it may come down to who bowls better in these next two matches between Lyon and Doherty

Fawad ahmed is being rushed through the citizenship qualification to be an Australian before the ashes tour. Sooner the better.

Was anyone else under the impression that Shane Watson had given up bowling for good?

o'keefe did get 8 of those in one gameso if you take that out you have 9 wickets in 6 matches - hardly emphatic form for test cricket

Yep a good point too, Lyon is under pressure to perform no doubt. Traditionally offies don't do that well in Aussie conditions (Yardley?) and it's no secret that Lyon is behind Swan. It's hard to forget that Lyon has had a poor summer as many are in the habit of pointing it out. I reckon he can bowl and will bowl well in England or at least better in England. Whether that is good enough remains to be seen.
