Marlon Samuels

Postby Dogwatcher » Mon Jan 07, 2013 12:05 pm

Seems to be copping a fair bit of flak this summer, whether it be for chucking or Shane Warne trying to impose himself on a situation.
I seem to remember that an Australian team came in for some criticism from people in the West Indies in the early 2000s for their treatment of either him, or his brother Robert during a Test match in the Caribbean.
My recollection is that the Aussies got right into Robert/Marlon when they were very early into their career, possibly debut series. He copped a right sledging.
I know he's regarded as a chucker and has been banned for betting issues but is this current distaste for Marlon a residual from this incident early in his or his brother's career?
Can anyone remember the incident I'm talking about?

Didn't Marlon begin his test career in Australia?

During the Steve Waugh captain era they were big on mental disintegration maybe they picked up on the fact that Marlon likes to give it back and then get out...

The carry on with Warnie started because Samuels tried to shepherd the batsman from taking a second run. Don't think Warne should have even got involved with that until after the match and he should get penalised for throwing the ball at him, but Samuels should also get penalised for firstly blocking the batsman and secondly throwing his bat towards a player.

He comes accross as a bit of a tosser to me (no pun intended), but i couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for him last night. He has copped it from all angles this summer; coaches, press, players.

Confirmed chucker, allegedly associated with bookies, average with the bat and ball, has now had at least 3 run ins during the the Big Bash ... Yes, he's a right royal tosser of the highest order.

You might be right about beginning here. As I said, my memories on this are shady - I'm not even sure which brother it was!

As for last night's incident, I'm not even all that interested in it. It will be discussed ad nauseum on talkback radio today and really, it was just Warnie trying to remain relevant as a player and frontispiece of the game.

Was great when Malinga hit him, shut him up for awhile.
Was a massive flop as all the Windies players have been this year

IIRC the "mental disintegration" included getting into young players who the Aussies through were upstarts or a bit ahead of themselves.
Was it him or Sarwan that McGrath has the big run-in with?

Maybe chuck can recruit him.
Chuck's chuckers
Already have Botha, just need Murali, Ajmal, Samuels and Brett Lee and we have a decent throwing attack

McGrath to Ramnaresh Sarwan: “So what does Brian Lara’s di*k taste like?”Sarwan: “I don’t know. Ask your wife.

McGrath (lost his cool): “If you ever F**king mention my wife again, I’ll F**king rip your F**ing throat out.”

Thanks dedja. I'd always thought Sarwan must have had a distasteful crack about Jane's illness, but if that's how it went then McGrath was way over-the-top IMO.

Would put a twist on things if Sarwan was to play in a Sydney Test...

That certainly wasn't a glory moment for pigeon considering Sarwan made a hundred and the Windies chased down over 400 for a record win.

Agree, $4500 and a match was a good penalty. Samuels bat throwing, aggressive behaviour and obstructing Hussey running should get the same penalty easily.

Warnie lost it ... arguing with umpires, should never have grabbed Samuel's shirt, and then the 'innocent' throw.

All this whilst miked up ... LOL.

Samuels is a dickhead though ...

They shouldn't have tossed the ball at him either.

Pretty poor way to attract internationals over here, a $1M salary cap between 15 players over a month is hardly big bucks when it comes to other comps getting around.
The guy has copped it all summer, he obviously keeps passing their tests whether we like it or not.
