SA v TAS - Sheffield Shield @ Adelaide Oval 9/10-12/10

Postby bloods08 » Sat Oct 06, 2012 9:26 pm

Mentioned in the grade cricket thread that Michael Klinger did his shoulder today trying to take his catch for Kensington. Looks like he could be out for a month.

Christian and Botha should be available as well. Joe Mennie is playing for the Perth Scorchers in the champions league. Reckon they will go with this side:

Hughes
Miller
Cooper
Ferguson
Head
Christian
Botha
Ludeman
Lyon
Sayers
Putland

Christian and Miller would need to do a fair bit of bowling due to the lack of a 3rd quick. Worrall or George may come in because of Sayers' lack of pace.
Go you Redbacks!

What does that mean Booney? Playing for your country is a pretty good excuse.

Could Kelvin Smith be a chance to get a game? Saw him bat last weekend and the kid has some serious talent!

West End Redbacks captain, Johan Botha and all-rounder, Daniel Christian, have returned for the first Bupa Sheffield Shield match at Adelaide Oval for the 2012/13 season.

Botha and Christian flew back from the ICC T20 World Cup during the weekend and will line-up for the Redbacks against the Tasmanian Tigers in the match starting on Tuesday 9 October.

Botha will be representing South Australia for the first time since being named captain in March.

Fast-bowler, Joe Mennie, who is in South Africa with the Perth Scorchers at the Karbonn Smart Champions League Twenty20, comes out of the squad that played in Brisbane last week.

Opening batsman, Michael Klinger, injured his left shoulder while fielding for Kensington on Saturday and will undergo a fitness test on Monday. A decision on the final XI will be made before play on Tuesday.

Speaking at Vale Park Primary School (pictured above) on Monday morning, helping to launch the West End Redbacks' 2012/13 campaign, coach Darren Berry was confident that the two experienced inclusions would help bolster the final XI. Berry and the entire Redbacks' squad took part in the clinic, and gave the young fans a chance to hold last year's Ryobi One day Cup trophy.

“It will obviously be a big blow if Klinger isn’t available, but we’ve got to focus on the positives and that’s Daniel Christian, who has flown back to make himself available for this game and also Johan Botha,” Berry said.

“Botha is an aggressive character on the field and a really good leader of men. He has been honest with the playing group and you will see a strong leader out on the ground.

“We think we have a really good line-up going in to this game and on our home patch, we expect to play well.

“We play the two finalists in our first four Bupa Sheffield Shield games. From my point of view, that’s a really good test for us to be able to take on the best.”

Peter George? Many may have forgotten but he has played a test for Australia. He seems to have fallen out of favour with Chuck, sack him ffs.

Hopefully Botha can make a few runs otherwise playing two spinners is pointless. Unless they drop Lyon which would be a joke.
