1st Test
In reply to NZs 1st innings of 351 the Windies with Chris Gayle back in the team after a 2 year ?absence are cruising at 0/242
Gayle who was dropped by Flynn at point (a sitter

) when on 36 has gone on to 144* (190) whilst his partner Kieron Powell is on 95*(236)
Gayle just DROPPED again, again a sitter to Ross Taylor at 1st slip off part time offie Kane Williamson. Ball bounced and spun, clipping the shoulder of the bat, deflected off the keepers gloves and looped to Taylor who seemed completely disorientated by it all and completely muffed it.
Lunch Day 3
NZ 351
W.I. 0/245 (72 overs)
Gayle 146* (198)
Powell 96* (235)

Ended up at 6/442. Draw probably or Windies may go the tonk to set up a chance.

Hmmm, 8/223 or 214 from one dismissal?

Good to see a bowler get it over the batsman for once...

Gone are the days of joint men of the match.

I'd understand if it was good figures, I'd take 150 over 5/132 any day, 5/132 is neither here nor there, ok but not outstanding.

I agree but the batsmen get their fair share IMO

Careful using that terminology when describing WI sides of the past...
WI's could've laid claim to 3 MOTM. If it wasn't for Roach tearing the heart out of the NZ middle order, it
might've petered out to a draw.

(Yeah, yeah, unlikely they would've kept Narine out anyhow, but....

)
Great to see Gayle back in the WI side & in the longer form of the game. And Chanderpaul didn't even contribute 1 run to the cause..

New Zealand have suffered a major blow ahead of the second Test against West Indies in Jamaica after Daniel Vettori was ruled out with groin strain.

Team news
West Indies brought Fidel Edwards into the squad because Ravi Rampaul sustained a groin strain. However, with Tino Best, who sat out in the first Test, already in the squad, Edwards might have to watch from the sidelines.
West Indies: (probable) 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Kieran Powell, 3 Assad Fudadin, 4 Marlon Samuels, 5 Shivnarine Chanderpaul, 6 Narsingh Deonarine, 7 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 8 Darren Sammy (capt), 9 Sunil Narine, 10 Tino Best, 11 Kemar Roach.
New Zealand have to fill Vettori's spot and the only other specialist spinner in the squad is the legspinner Tarun Nethula, who could be in line for a Test debut. They must also find a new opening combination after Daniel Flynn was ruled out due to a groin injury. BJ Watling is the only back-up batsman in the squad and could slot straight in to open alongside Martin Guptill, or could slot in down the order to allow Brendon McCullum to open.
"Daniel has been carrying the grade one injury [a right adductor muscle strain] since the last day of the first Test but had responded positively to treatment," Paul Close, the New Zealand physio, said. "We felt there was a reasonable chance he would be fit to play but his progress over the past 24 hours plateaued. He was still experiencing pain during the team training session today with a subsequent fitness test ruling him out. We are confident he will be fully fit in time for the upcoming tour of India."
New Zealand: (probable) 1 Martin Guptill, 2 BJ Watling, 3 Brendon McCullum, 4 Ross Taylor (capt), 5 Kane Williamson, 6 Dean Brownlie, 7 Kruger van Wyk (wk), 8 Doug Bracewell, 9 Neil Wagner, 10 Tarun Nethula, 11 Chris Martin

No Martin is this test, was leave out for seamer Boult.
The reason for Martin's exclusion: "We wanted two fresh bowlers [seamers]," says Ross Taylor, after Martin bowled a fair bit in the warm-up game and the first Test.

Curious effort to say the least with regards to Gayles innings.
If he was playing for Pakistan, there would be all sorts of allegations being made.
Samuels went from 98 to 123 in 5 balls. 6 6 6 1 6
