Cricket Australias Contract List For 2012/13

Postby Brodlach » Fri Jun 22, 2012 4:44 pm

Any glaring omissions?

The 2012-13 Cricket Australia contracted players are:
Michael Clarke NSW
Patrick Cummins NSW
Xavier Doherty TAS
Brad Haddin NSW
Ryan Harris QLD
Ben Hilfenhaus TAS
David Hussey VIC
Michael Hussey WA
Mitchell Johnson WA
Nathan Lyon SA
James Pattinson VIC
Ricky Ponting TAS
Peter Siddle VIC
Mitchell Starc NSW
Matthew Wade VIC
Shane Watson NSW
David Warner NSW

How does David Hussey get a contract
Haddin maybe lucky.

Dussey gets a contract because he will decent at both ODI's and T20's.

Someone is missing on that list I just can't think who.

Keeping in mind that the list is reduced, with the plan to not let it get in the way of selecting form players, it isn't a bad list.

I'd call Doherty lucky, personally.

Minimum of 17 and maximum of 20 contracted players. Good move!

Up to a possible 13 players can be upgraded when they activate 12 points (4 points for a test match), with a base amount of $190,000 for those upgraded players.

Really like the new system.

Would have thought Ed Cowan should have got a contract. Surely being Australia's Test Opener for the last however many Tests would automatically qualify him. Perhaps he should just go for the lucrative Twenty20 contracts on offer around the place and screw playing Test cricket for Australia...

Can't believe they reward ODI and T20 players over Test players. Surely the current test XI should get looked after with a contract? I know Cowan will end up with one if he holds his spot but this system just encourages players to seek out T20 cash rather than concentrate on what should be seen as the pinnicle of the game.

I guess you'll never please everyone, and more contracts will be issued over the next 12 months, but it just doesn't sit right that the Australian test opener doesn't have a contract.

considering every player now contracted plays and performes admirably in two out of the three formats regularly, excluding ponting but he's absolutely awesome so thats enough to keep out the hughes', khawaja's, ferguson's or cowan's, thats a good list. Probably last year of haddin though, enjoy the 230K super. Mitch can consider himself lucky but as aussies dont we love a battler?!

Exactly. Why would any young cricketer practise building an innings over whacking the ball these days when even if you do make it to Test level you aren't guaranteed a contract and financial reward.
