Just horrific.
Klinger and Cooper had good years numbers wise (both in top 8 in SS) but were inconsistent. Both only made 1 x 200 and no other centuries.
Christian started the year at Number 6 and made a couple of centuries, was great to see him rewarded with a spot in the ODI side.
Ferg the major disappointment, too good to be averaging 32, but not getting any younger, may have missed the Aussie boat.
A fair indication of where we are at is the talk about Head and Stray.. averaged mid 20s!
wouldn't cut the mustard in anyother state

Batting averages (took out the bowlers)
Matches Inns NOs Runs HS Average 100s 50s

DT Christian 5 9 1 475 131* 59.37 2 1
M Klinger 10 19 1 835 219* 46.38 1 4
TLW Cooper 10 19 2 756 203* 44.47 1 4
AW O'Brien 2 4 2 71 51* 35.50 0 1

Our batting needs to be built around the few First Class standard players we have.
Klinger, Cooper and Christian are those names.

They are the three who were consistently good enough to be First Class batsmen, although two young bucks stood up towards the end, Head and Stray, those first three names are the only one's who shouldn't be fearing their spot in the squad.

my critique = for the 40 odd years i can remember following cricket this is the worst side ever batting wise, we have been crap for most of those 40 odd but never this bad yet 2 of our blokes scored double centuries, go figure :?

i may be totally off track but when i cast my eyes over the district scores in the mail, nobody is making centuries, no club seems to able to score 300, years ago there were guys like bradbrook? making tons of runs at district level and other names who escape me but these days the scores are nothing like they used to get and yes i know some rounds are 50 overs a side

Yes i have seen the same.
Plenty of times this year ive seen sides make barely 100

As bad as our batting was this year, I'm not sure we were significantly worse than most years this decade.

We are shocking, but have been that way for the greater part of the last 5 or perhaps even 10 years.

What year were we out for 20-odd? About 5 seasons ago from memory.

well look at Prospect bowled out for 25 in the A grade FFS, an Under 11 side would do better than that

The standard of bowling has gotten a lot worse too. Sides even in the late 90's would pile on huge scores against some of the current grade attacks

That is a reflection on 2 things. The standard of facilities at grade grounds is diabolical. Grounds with A grade programmed on it can't even get the covers on in time or correctly

the 2nd is today's society, if a kid is not pushing state selection by 23/24 they say 'Stuff it I'm going to spend Saturdays at the Beach and not Salisbury Oval on a stinking hot day'

Yep throw in alot of decent cricketers are lost as well because they are decent footballers and can earn between $500-$1000 game throughout football season now days so cricket becomes insignificant

Terrible, second innings averages are almost double first innings if not more. I put the stats up a few weeks ago and with the game against Tassie the stats will be worse.
