Limited overs squads named for VB Tour of West Indies

Cricket Australia’s National Selection Panel (NSP) today announced the Australian squads for the limited overs component of the VB Tour of West Indies.

ODI Squad
NAME STATE AGE
Michael Clarke – Captain NSW 30
Shane Watson – Vice-captain NSW 30
George Bailey TAS 29
Dan Christian SA 28
Xavier Doherty TAS 29
Peter Forrest QLD 26
Brad Haddin NSW 34
Ben Hilfenhaus TAS 28
David Hussey VIC 34
Michael Hussey WA 36
Brett Lee NSW 35
Nathan Lyon SA 24
Clint McKay VIC 29
James Pattinson VIC 21
Matthew Wade VIC 24
David Warner NSW 25

T20 Squad
NAME BBL Team AGE
George Bailey – Captain Stars 29
Shane Watson – Vice-captain Sixers 30
Dan Christian Heat 28
Xavier Doherty Hurricanes 29
Peter Forrest Heat 26
David Hussey Stars 34
Michael Hussey Scorchers 36
Brett Lee Sixers 35
Nathan Lyon Strikers 24
Clint McKay Stars 29
James Pattinson Stars 21
Matthew Wade Stars 24
David Warner Thunder 25

Commenting on the squad, National Selector John Inverarity said: “The ODI squad is the same as the squad for the Commonwealth Bank Series finals beginning next week with the addition of three players in Brad Haddin, Nathan Lyon and George Bailey.

“This completes a well-balanced squad and it is anticipated that most players will receive good opportunities to show their worth.

“Shane Watson and Mike Hussey come back into the T20 squad to provide a great deal of experience and power to the batting line-up. If we were to select our best T20 team to play next week the top seven in order would be Watson, Warner, Mike Hussey, David Hussey, Bailey, Wade and Christian. Hence, there was simply no room on this occasion for Shaun Marsh, Travis Birt and Aaron Finch. Though Peter Forrest is in the T20 squad, it is not anticipated he will be in the team and is there as back-up.

“As was stated in January, Brad Hogg was not considered for this tour. However, he remains in strong contention to be a member of our ICC World Twenty20 squad which is likely to include three spin bowlers.

“Additionally, Mitchell Starc has not been selected as a member of this squad. However, Mitchell will travel with this group as a further development opportunity and spend valuable time around the Australian squad in the West Indies,” Inverarity said.

Match schedule:

ODI Series
Friday, 16 March – 1st ODI at Arnos Vale Cricket Ground, St Vincent
Sunday, 18 March – 2nd ODI at Arnos Vale Cricket Ground, St Vincent
Tuesday, 20 March – 3rd ODI at Arnos Vale Cricket Ground, St Vincent
Friday, 23 March – 4th ODI at Beausejour Cricket Ground, St Lucia
Sunday, 25 March – 5th ODI at Beausejour Cricket Ground, St Lucia

T20 Series
Tuesday, 27 March – 1st T20 at Beausejour Cricket Ground, St Lucia
Friday, 30 March – 2nd T20 at Kensington Oval, Barbados

If he doesnt play a game, surely it would be better to take a young up and coming keeper (Triffet)

Give Nevill a go.
Why bother taking Lee? Give another kid a crack like Coulter-Nile or McDermott

Why bother, send Nevill to get some touring experience. If you are going to have someone sit on their ass for a month it may aswell be someone younger

I agree, but this way it gives the impression that he hasn't been forgotten. Even though we riot if he makes a comeback.

Pat Cummins was meant to be included on the Windies tour but has felt some pain in his injured heel and wont be risked now.
