Sheffield Shield - SA v Tas

Davey and Doropoulos to debut
28 Feb 2012 - General News, Redbacks

Theo Doropoulos
West End Redbacks selectors have made five inclusions to the 12-man Bupa Sheffield Shield squad for the match against the PKF Tasmanian Tigers at Adelaide Oval starting Wednesday 29 February 2012.
Wicketkeeper, Tim Davey has earned his chance after his form for Tea Tree Gully in grade cricket and also for the South Australian Futures League team.
Davey has made 655 runs at 65.50 for Tea Tree Gully this season including three centuries and two half centuries from 11 innings.
He also made 95 and 35 in the recent Futures League game against Queensland in Brisbane.
Theo Doropoulos will make his Bupa Sheffield Shield debut for South Australia on the back of runs in the Ryobi One Day Cup and also in the Futures League.
Doropoulos gained a contract with the West End Redbacks in 2011 after winning the Jack Ryder medal in Victoria’s grade competition last season.
He was one of the heroes for the Redbacks in Sunday’s win against the PKF Tasmanian Tigers, scoring 40 off 34 balls including four sixes. He also made 77 in the second innings against Queensland in the Futures League game last week. Bowler, Mick Delaney is also a chance to make his Bupa Sheffield Shield debut.
After struggling with injury for much of the season, Delaney returned to the South Australia’s Futures League team last week and took four wickets against Queensland. He has also taken 13 wickets for Prospect this season at 27.00.
The West End Redbacks bowling stocks have been significantly strengthened with the return of Gary Putland and Nathan Lyon.
Putland has not played a Bupa Sheffield Shield game since injuring his hamstring against the NSW Speedblitz Blues in November 2011, while Lyon played in the first match of the season in October 2011 before leaving for Australian Test duties.
Callum Ferguson will miss the clash with Tasmania after breaking his left thumb at training last week. Ferguson was able to play in the Ryobi One Day Cup final with protection, but with the West End Redbacks unable to make the Bupa Sheffield Shield final, he will be rested and will wear a splint to allow the thumb to recover.
Bowler, Carl Tietjens will miss the match with injury after a groin strain he suffered during grade cricket. Chadd Sayers trained yesterday but will also miss the match with a left side injury. He will be continually assessed before the final Bupa Sheffield Shield match against Queensland.

Think its great and well over due that we are giving these kids a go but i'm slightly concered with the outcome of this game.

The keys for me are- Klinger, Lyon and Cooper all must have huge games for us NOT to lose by more than an innings.

This being siad there is no point what so ever in giving these young guys a go and should they fail dropping them for the QLD game kids need time and exposure at the higest level they can to blossom.

Whilst i'm on the topic i like players like Theo they give there all game in game out but you must question why he is being selected at this time of the year at his age. In my opinion he should've been given a crack at the start of the year to see if he could hold his spot or not for mine to play him now we'd be robbing a young bloke of exposure than may well help us as a state in the long run.

Seeing a the shield season is gone players are getting selected to play for a contract for next season. I think Theo is off contract at seasons end and with with his late boost in form he might carry on in the shield.

Bowling looks ok but batting looks very light on.
Give anyone but Dudopoulous a go.
Tassie have a very well balanced side can honestly say we will lose easily
Well done to Davey, good that Crockwaite was dropped

Even though I rate Crossy, I am pleased for a local young talent to get a run. Hope he does well.

I rate Crossy in the short format. Given us nothing in the Shield, but the odd 50.
Davey makes hundreds, hope he can take the step, that's what we need at 7
