Au revoir R T Ponting

Postby steakn » Mon Feb 20, 2012 8:11 pm

Is this the end? ODI career pretty much all but over. Is it worth continuing?
If so I'm stoked he had an awesome test series against India to finish up.

If he retires gracefully now, hardly anyone will remember this little poor showing in the tri series.

Agree with dedja... and Steakn...

Has played his last One Day International, but will probably eke out one last Ashes series before calling it a day.

If decides to continue playing test he could quite possibility become a blue next season as he would struggle to meet requirements while playing with tassie as he lives in Sydney. This could be a big factor for him and his family moving forward. Sadly can see a retirement coming for all forms of cricket.

If he does that hopefully it is immediate so he doesn't front for Tassie against the Redbacks on the weekend.

If he plays he's more than likely to make a big score to stick it up Inverarity & co

Certainly not impressed that he got dropped, but what can you say, 18 runs in 5 innings, batting in the top four, couldn't expect him to stay in.
To say he is not part of their plans going forward is a bit silly, if he decided to play Ryobi Cup for Tassie next year and belts runs everywhere, then a red-faced Invers may have to recall him.

I dont think hes made a decision on that! He said he will be playing in the Shield game next week, but also needs to talk to the Tasmanian heirarchy about whether he plays this weekend in the Ryobi Cup also.

Planning for 2015 World Cup starts now.
Go back over the years and our superstars of years gone by have been dumped from the limited overs set up just because they are not going to be around. Plenty of time to find the replacement.

Ponting's lean trot has given them the excuse to pension him off into retirement

Fair call too, we have enough talent going around.

Can't remember which cricketer's book I read it in but they look to the next world cup 2 or 3 years out from the tournament.
