National Under 19 Championships

Postby bulldogproud2 » Wed Jan 11, 2012 9:21 pm

A great win by South Australia against New South Wales today at Woodville Oval.
Batting first, we unfortunately lost both openers to runouts (Kelvin Smith for 6 and Josh Hoffman for 8 ) early, leaving us at 2/25. After the loss of Harrison Drew for 7 and Alex Gregory for 1, we found ourselves 4/73. However, a brilliant knock from Travis Head (113 in 161 minutes, 126 balls, 11 4's and 2 6's), supported by 40 from Trent Carter and 20 from Trent Badman saw us make a very competitive 8/235.

Our two West Torrens opening bowlers (Tom Derham and Jack Pudney) struck early and had New South Wales in trouble at 2/14. This included the wicket of the dangerous Kurtis Patterson (youngest player to make a Shield century on debut) for 1. However, a 61 run third-wicket partnership saw NSW recover to 2/75 before Trent Badman, Caleb Graeber and Kelvin Smith each struck, leaving NSW in trouble at 6/95. A very strong 91 seventh-wicket partnership saw NSW get themselves right back in the match before our bowlers once again gained the upper hand and bowled NSW out for 214 with 9 balls remaining. Best bowling returns were from Trent Badman (2/29 from 7), Tom Derham (2/33 from 9) and Jack Pudney (2/36 from 9.3) Caleb Graeber also bowled very well, taking 1/37 from his 10 overs, with Kelvin Smith taking the other wicket.

Tomorrow sees our boys head to Park 25 to taken on the Northern Territory, who went down narrowly to Victoria today.

Cheers

Trav Head 265 runs for the carnival 2 hundreds and a 40odd. Fair chance to play the first Shield game back

Another 71 today in very quick time. He was absolutely smoking the ball from the moment he came to the crease.
Unfortunately though SA went down to WA by 39 runs thanks to some very good bowling from Simon Mackin.
No unbeaten sides left in the comp now, with Queensland defeating Victoria today.

Now for Trav Head's big test. Runs tomorrow for the Bulls against a quality Grade attached, ie Sayers, Tietjens, Skewes and co will almost guarantee him a debut shield game.

Geez even the ACT finished higher than SA.
Very disappointing tournament, the only real positive was the performances by Travis Head

He'll need quite a lot of runs if Gullies are to win that game next week!

No, the recent overhaul needs to be given a chance to work.

Still need to overhaul more.

Stunned to hear on the weekend that SACA selected a player who hasn't played much cricket at all this season due to a back injury. Hope they have good medical opinion for pressuring the player to play in the carnival

Awards wrap up from National U19 Championships:

Timely update. Two kids in the team of the carnival, at a level where team results are not as important as player development I would think SA got a bit out of this carnival.
