Australia v India 2nd Test - Sydney - commencing 3/1/12

Michael Clarke on the 2nd test bowling lineup

"I've seen Ryan bowl in the nets over the last few days and he looks pretty good," Clarke said. "I don't know if he is 100% fit but from what I've seen in the nets he looks ready to go. That's probably one of the bonuses we've got at the moment: our attack is bowling really well, and we have guys like Ryan on the mend and not too far from being fully fit. I think it is a good problem to have."

"Ryan has had a lot of success for us and he's a quality bowler, so we need to look at the conditions. If it is going to spin or if it is a bit dry we can talk about two spinners, we can talk about an allrounder, but if it has got grass on it like it did last year there is a chance we could play four fast bowlers."

Oh no Clarke talking about the potential for 2 spinners.

FFS we dont have 1 in this country thats good enough yet to bowl these blokes out FORGET ABOUT PLAYING 2.

As i have said previously i think the side will remain unchanged but wouldnt be to dissapointed if Harris came in for Lyon if he is indeed fit.

Batting line-up wont change i really wish they would bring Wade in for Haddin but it wont happen. Also no playing 4 day cricket to put pressure on Shaun Marsh position but he should be better for the run at the MCG.

Come on Aussies Come on Come on

Ryan Harris has been deemed fit to return to Australia's squad and will be considered for a recall in the New Year's Test match against India in Sydney. However Shane Watson's prospects for the remainder of the Test summer look increasingly cloudy.

Watson was unable to be considered due to the calf injury that reduced him to spectator status during the team's batting camp ahead of the Melbourne Test.

It was better news for Harris, whose recovery from a hip complaint and adherence to a strict training schedule to get his body up to the rigours of a Test match means he is now in contention for a place in the SCG team. His inclusion came at the expense of Mitchell Starc and Daniel Christian, the 12th and 13th men in Melbourne omitted for the SCG.

Harris will not be twelfth man, so who do you drop?

Has to be Nathan Lyon.

Horses for courses may see Hilfy dropped! Especially if its a low flat pitch with expected good whether and no swing about.

**** all of this about changes, Same team. Seriously Same team!

Marsh is still massively underdone but he'll only get better by spending time in the middle. Yeah that means he may have to bat like Cowan did for a while, but god its better than making 0 and 3.

Harris is fit, for how long?

Wouldn't have thought the Harris 'in' would be a given, particularly in Sydney. :? I'd imagine they'll wait'n see what the deck is like on the first morning and make a call from there, but it's difficult to change a winning line-up, especially one with a well balanced attack.

As good as Ryno's record is from his 8 Tests, there still has to be doubts about his ability to get through 5 days of cricket and a solid workload. The last thing Clarke will want to do is compromise the team's best chances of winning because of doubts over the fitness of one of the bowlers. For example, Aust bat first and make 600, then roll India for 180 from 90 overs (unlikely, I know.. :P  ) by lunch Day 3. They want to enforce the follow on, but Harris has just taken 4-for from 20 overs.. Does he just send them back in & either nurse Harris through the Indian 2nd innings, or even worse, be one bowler down?? Or bat again - with the only valid reason behind the decision being the question mark over Harris? Quandary... ;)

Personally, I'd leave the side as it is. 8)

lol, he did say he was using it just for the arguement purposes.

I still dont like the idea of changing around a winning team. What is the deck on Sydney going to be like? At the moment people have be saying that it is not a typical SCG pitch.

I would hate to see us take in 2 spinners. We dont have one that is first class yet, let alone 2 that would get in the side on form or ability.

Two spinners surely not.

Hard to see Harris being 12th man, surely you would pick a dud so Harris can atleast bowl in the Big Bash.

Personally i'd like to see Harris play in this test as the fourth quick. I agree with previous posters comments about Lyon in regards to leaving him out of the rest of the series. I think he will bowl well but as the first test has shown the quicks are more likely to trouble the opposition.

I would also like to see CA develop some sort of rotation system with their quicks. Pattinson and Cummins have proved that young raw talent can be successful on the world stage so why not try a few more. It may help us into the future having a group of quicks that all have around the same experience at the top level and injury free. I would hate to see the selectors burn Pattinson out before hes 25 and lose him to injury early. We need to look after these talented cricketers so that we have them still playing into their mid 30's.

Just a thought
Get that corn outta my face!!

So Don Bradman misses a game due to attending the birth of his daughter and the Australian team had a win. So you are saying he won't get a gig in the next game? You pick the best team available.

From India's perspective they need to consider replacing Ghambir as an opener. On Australian wickets he has no attacking shots and timidly prods and pokes at balls trying to delay his inevitable dismissal.

They need a confident batsman who is out there looking to keep the scoreboard ticking over and build a solid foundation for the innings.

We are talking about a Bowler who has played what 5 tests, and been sidelined with indjuries a few times. Thats what we are talking about. Of course if you had a player like Bradman out of the side for one game then he would come straight back in. But in todays test side you tell me one player that we would do the same thing that has actually warrented that selection.

It's cut and dry for mine. Watson for Marsh if he's fit if not DC for Marsh. Punta back up to 3, they would come in at 6
It's a fickle world but Steady Eddy has leapfrogged Marsh at this stage and squashed the head of Philbert Hughes. Probably first real stuff up from Ed and Marsh will in turn replace him as opener.
When Cummo is fit he will replace either Sidds or Hilf whoever losses form.

I must say pre summer it was the bowling side that really worried me but I reckon our attack in all test matches including South Africa deserve credit for their efforts. It's a real positive that if everyone was fit the attack that played v England last year over summer would be scattered through an Australian 2nd,3rd or in Beers case a 4th 11.
