Negative:
The apparent love affair that saw Joe Mennie playing in the first few games. A Grade spud.
Aiden Blizzard failing to reproduce his 2010/11 form.
The promotion of players who are just pathetic: Ben Dougall.
The continued selection of a spud: Cullen Bailey.
Callum Ferguson's form (Second innings of the current Shield game excluded).
The third seamer in the team (after George and Putland) is too hit and miss.
Not having a back up keeper to Crosthwaite.
Inconsistent batsmen: Klinger is one of the best batsmen in the Shield today. He'll make runs though, and do eff all for the next game.
The continued selection of Dan Christian in the top six.
Crappy grade set up not producing quality: We consider guys like Sayers a quality grade cricketer, but he looks distinctly spud like in the Shield level.

More to come...

Would love to know the stats over the last 20 years on the results when S.A. have Declared and set the opposition a target.

Having a guess, it seems like about -
Opposition Wins 60%
Draw 25%
S.A. Wins 15%

If it's anywhere like those figures, it would prove that the Captains over the years have little idea about setting realistic targets and also that our bowling attacks are over-rated as targets are continually chased down, quite often with EASE.

Mark Waugh said on Inside Cricket tonight he wants Christian to be selected for the 1st Test against NZ to replace Watson.

Does anyone else think, like me, that they have actually improved a little this year? Hate losing but they dont seem as ordinary as they have been over the previous few years. Berry is going to take sometime to turn things around, not just 5 games.

Call me crazy but as a casual observer watching the results, I would say the Redbacks have improved this year.

Last year they were getting smashed from start to finish, getting bowled out for ridiculously low scores etc.

This year it seems to me that they are getting themselves in a position to win games. They have recovered from batting collapses to post reasonable totals. They have bowled out sides for chaseable totals at least 1 innings out of the 2. They even made a gutsy declaration in the last shield match in an effort to win overall.

There are individuals who are definitely in form slumps, and the bowling attack seems to not quite have the tanks to bowl a side out twice, but overall I reckon the Redbacks have shown a reasonable amount of ticker this season so far, as opposed to absolutely nothing last season.

It seems I'm in the minority with this assessment though.

To be fair to MP, Christian is probably batting higher than he should be. If our top order was firing, he would be a sensational number 7 or 8
