South Australian Cricket general discussion

Postby Media Park » Tue Nov 08, 2011 3:26 pm

Rather than clog up the specific match threads with this stuff, I figured a single place to discuss the results, form, hypothetical team in and outs that we think should happen.

After the current game, three glaring outs need to come for the Shield team, Aiden Blizzard, Dougall, and Tim Ludeman.

The obvious one is Ludeman out and Crosthwaite in, whilst a fit Dan Harris is a certainty to replace Dougall at the top of the order.

Question is, which middle order player comes in for Blizzard?

1. Dan Harris- A dead cert when he's fit again.
2. James Smith- He is the next best option we have, and although he may not be a future gun, he's the best alternative, so lets get him in.
3. Michael Klinger- Should do better not having to open.
4. Callum Ferguson
5. Tom Cooper
6. Daniel Christian
7. Adam Crosthwaite- Straight swap for Ludeman.
8. Cullen Bailey
9. Aaron O'Brien- Helps the team bat a little bit lower, and he's a handy spin bowler to partner Bailey (who shouldn't be in the side anyway).
10. Gary Putland- If he isn't fit, then Mennie will get another bash.
11. Peter George

I know it's about the best we can come up with, but that tail is sooooo long. :(

We recruited Doropoulos, lets give him a crack.

Tail not that long NFC, that team bats to 9. Cannot see that team taking 20 wickets though. Mennie needs to go also IMO.

I disagree. I love DC as much as the next bloke, but way too unreliable to be batting at 6. FC average of 27.

Crosthwaite I am a fan of, but he needs to be batting at 8. FC average of 21.

Here's my team:

1. Harris
2. Klinger
3. Blizzard
4. Ferguson
5. Cooper
6. Borgas (shudder, but seriously who else?)
7. Christian
8. Crosthwaite
9. Putland
10. Richardson
11. Goerge

Yes it's short on bowlers, but seriously, I think draws are our best bets at the moment.

1) Harris
2) Smith
3) Klinger
4) Ferguson
5) Cooper
6) Christian
7) Douropoulos
8 ) Crosthwaite
9) O'Brien
10) Putland
11) George

The redbacks really need 3 strike bowlers. George atm is sticking his hand up as our number 1 bowler and putland is getting there, one of o'brien, christian, richardson, bailey, mennie really needs to start taking wickets to consider a 6th specialist batsman, otherwise the only way we will take 20 wickets is by having 4 bowlers / 1 all rounder or 2 all rounders / 3 specialist bowlers.

Lyon is actually an imperative part of that side imo as whilst he is not a genuine wicket taker, his pressure from one end is what was causing wickets to george and co from the other. Bailey just doesnt provide that unfortunately.

Harris - made two decent scores just needs to work on his comsistency
Smith - only young and is ready
Klinger - much better at number 3
Ferguson - too often he is batting after a few overs
Cooper - most improved
Doropoulous - moved twice now, desperate for a crack and will give 110 percent
Christian - will be a much better strike bowler if he doesn't have to worry so much on batting in the top 6
Crossthwaite - because he has already scored more runs than ludeman will this year
Lyon - best spin bowler in the country at the moment can also play lower order innings
Putland - wicket taker just needs to stop bowling wides
George - our best bowler and needs to play in ford ranger

Reserve batsman: borgas
Reserve paceman: Richardson or Sayers
Reserve spinner bailey or Lyon

Not convinced: poozard, poodeman and poonnie

Reserve spinner bays? Lyon's there twice! Maybe because he's twice as good as any other spinner we have? Assuming you meant O'Brien...

You do? Oh dear

Did you see Douropoulos bat on the weekend? Must be a reason why he is on his third state. Mind you the catch to get him on Saturday was a screamer.

Live over in Lincoln, so the closest I see is former grade cricketers...
One of the main reasons I'd either follow the flock on here (J Smith) or pick a recycled player (O'Brien) rather than a left field grade selection...

We need to target our recruiting better and get out the chequebook. Guys like Birt and Rimmington to WA and Forrest to QLD and we end up with Theo
Can understand Rimmington going to a quicks Mecca at the WA but Birt or Forrest could have really offered us something.
Then you have David Warner who was looking at greener pastures and we apparantly chose Blizzard.
NSW have plenty of good batsmen, should have raided them. Which one out of Warner or Maddinson will miss out when Jacques and Hughes come back. I would be trying to tempt one of them to come to the batsmens paradise at AO.

Klinger made bucket loads of runs for his first two years at King William Road Oval, Ferg has looked a million bucks in the national ODI set up, and neither got a look in.
Someone like Ryan Harris deserved a national gig, then left us for the green tops of the 'Gabba, and he is now a key figure in the five day set up.
No prospective international player would come here if they want to play for their country, so it's only substandard guys who won't get a regular gig at their home states that want to come here.
Jason Gillespie the exception.

Thats why we have to change peoples perception of SA. If we were winning shields or competitive the test selectors couldnt ignore us. I would have thrown money at at least 3 batsmen.

Went out to bankstown today to have a look for a few overs and spoke to vaughany and he said putland has done a hammy and will be out a month and Dan Harris will come back soon.

Unfortunate about Gary as he has been our best quick.
