No sympathy for Butt or Asif but can't stop thinking that Aamir had any say in the situation. I know he could have not bowled the no ball but the pressure from his captain as an 18 year old would have been immense as well as the other threats i assume would have been made. Still time for him yet to turn it all around if he has the will.

Agree with you there, about Aamir. Probably didnt have much of a choice. Hes only a young man and well it would have been hard for him to turn around and say "not doing it".

Anyway hopefully he can turn it around, he has plenty of ability and will be what 20 years old at the most when he is out.

As for Asif, well trouble seems to follow him around the place doesent it.

Cant agree with this mate. The kid should have said I am not being part of this and promptly reported it to the umpire. What could the team captain and the other hoons running the show have done to him? Nothing. They are all as weak as p1ss and the gaol terms are pathetic.

Aamir will probably still play international cricket again. Will only be 24 when the ban finished (God knows if he is really 24 though)

No sympathy especially for Butt.

Probably said to a 18 year old that they would kill him or his family. How would an 18 yeard old handle that, they would simply just say **** it, its one no ball here and there thats it.

aamir i feel a little sympathy for, but the others should have got 10 years each minimum. The surface has only been scratched and as we all know its been going on for decades. make an example of these fools so no one else gets involved, or if they do they know the penalty will be a big one.

Pretty sure i had heard that the maximum term each could have got was 5-7 years. I guess the ICC can still impose further sanctions

I was just wondering about that, can they ban them for life after they are out of prison?

Didn't the late Hanse Cronje get a life ban before he was killed in that air crash?

Fixing matches or elements within them will be illegal in Australia in 2012, perhaps as soon as March, as the federal and state governments push ahead with specialised legislation.

The legislation, which is set to include penalties of up to 10 years' jail for those found to be involved in match-fixing, was encouraged and informed by cricket administrators, via the Coalition of Major Participation and Professional Sports (COMPPS), following the game's long and pained history of shady dealings between players and illegal bookmakers.

i'm hearing ya dedja.....just wish the games powerbrokers were listening. Its just so easy to get away with it and we all know the subcontinent has been up to no good for decades.

It's partially because the exotic bets have been banned on the subcontinent, that such a problem exists. If the betting market was fully legal over there, it would (arguably) be much less of a problem - the underground market wouldn't flourish as strongly.
