The Australian domestic season starts today with Ryobi Cup action between last years champions, Victoria and last years wooden spooners, Queensland at the GABBA.

Good to see the Brissie curators prepare a top deck unlike the crap we see in India.
Nice bit of green in it and superb bounce, great pitch for batting and bowling.
Great spell by Siddle 2/15(6), bowled a really good line and length with a few ripper short ones thrown in.

Forrest a good pick up for the Bulls from NSW. A handy knock under pressure and a nice run out as well. He had to leave Sydney because he couldn't see the wood through the trees.

That's too confusing, I would have thought a 40 over match would have an 8 over maximum.

They are 50 over matches.
Bowlers can bowl 12 overs max

Can't beleive Cleary still getting a game. Had some good games for SA over the years but you would think the Vics would have a younger player to try.

Vics had 5 out on International duty.
Cleary still is a decent containing bowler, doesnt take a heap of wickets but usually doesnt go for many runs

Cleary is definitely still a quality short form bowler. No doubt about that IMO

According to the Cricket Australia website it is actually a 13 over max

Which I believe is a senseless rule as it just increases the workload of frontline bowlers and means that fringe bowlers and allrounders get less of an opportunity. A young allrounder may be on the fringe of Australian selection but hardly gets a bowl in the Ryobi because he isn't deemed in the top 3-4 bowlers in his team.

If he isn't in the best 3 or 4 bowlers in the state side, he doesn't deserve to play for Australia.

I actually think it's a good rule as it means it will be harder for the batsmen to make junk runs because we will see less of the bowlers who are only there to make up the numbers.

There are plenty of part-time bowlers who bowl/have bowled for Australia in ODIs who wouldn't be in the top 3-4 bowlers in their state (eg Steve Smith types).
If the Australia selectors are looking for a batting allrounder who bowls a bit for the ODI team, then surely it would be beneficial if these types of players have at least had an opportunity to bowl for their state teams?
