Shane Warne has given the strongest indication yet that he could play in the Big Bash League this summer, five years after he last played competitive cricket in Australia. Warne, who will be 42 by the time the tournament starts, said he was weighing up offers from three sides, and he had been approached to be a BBL ambassador, consultant and player.

"You know what, there is probably a possibility that I might play," Warne said on the Melbourne radio station 3AW. "I might be involved in some level on the Twenty20, but I'm sort of mulling over all those things at the moment with some business opportunities and some sponsorships as well."

The eight city-based sides have until December 9 to finalise their 18-man squads, before the tournament begins a week later. Sydney Thunder have named all their players already, while the rest of the sides have some space left on their rosters.

warney looks fitter now than he did when he was dominating international cricket, can only be a good thing if he is involved in some way, just with the publicity he would bring

Yeah he'll never play Cricket again.

Am I the only one that thinks it might be time to stop, before he becomes simply a parody of himself?

I've got terrific memories of Warnie the Great, I don't want them sullied by memories of Warne the Ancient Leathery Try Hard.

Surely the strength in his shoulders is so far gone it will never return? Without that, I might as well play in his place.

Shane Warne has declared that he will come out of retirement to play in the Big Bash League this summer, but he has not yet decided which team will win his services. Warne, 42, has not played elite cricket in Australia since his final Test, at the SCG in January 2007.
